Hi all I have an under active thyroid and my eltroxin has been increased from 125 mg to 175 mg as my TSH went from borderline to over 31.

My question is I am now on day 4 of the increased dose and have been feeling back in the land of the living again which is fantastic, I have so much more energy and haven't felt the need to have my usual 2 hour a day sleep. I was just wondering if how I have been feeling is purely psychological or is it possible the increase could be working already so soon? Thanks in advance.

It is possible that it is the increased meds. as your body was lacking to enable your metabolism to be efficient. I would think too, as your TSH is 31, that another increase would be due in a few weeks.

Thanks so much Shaws that is good to hear. I have been feeling great my husband and daughter can not get over this new me with all of this energy, long may it last. I am due to go back in 6 weeks for repeat bloods so it will be interesting to see what my levels are. I just hope they don't decide to reduce this dose saying it's too high for me as I am feeling human again for the first time in about 4 years.

more likely to be psychological as it will take 4 - 6 weeks for the increased dose to have its maximum effect (which is why you have that gap before a blood test). However even if it is psychological its working for you and that's all that matters really.

I'm not so sure about this being mind induced.

Many on here take alternate daily dose levels for good reason.

So yes, the TSH may take time to adapt for follow up assessment -but no reason to think short term changes are not happening.

Could also be that a threshold has been crossed where a certain level above the usual is suddenly accessable and has a bigger effect on energy and mood.

As always, conversion efficiency and symptoms reported by user, not TSH, should be the arbiter of all thyroid efficacy.
