So after barring with my GP she agreed to put my dose upto 50mg with close observation. So the question I have is how long does it take to feel the benifits will it be around two weeks again? I'm going on holiday soon and want to feel well for that 😕

Am afraid it is different for everyone.  When you were on 25mcg I read that your TSH went up and Jazz gave a good explanation.  This makes me think it will take longer for you to feel better and for the TSH to lower to 1 or below.

50mcg can still be a starter dose for many .....

Thank you I thought that may be the case. I gave the good explaination to the doctor following everyone's advise and the thyroid association she wasn't getting the point about my TSH levels lowers to ideally near one she was very reluctant I think she still wanted me to pop anti depressants typical GP!

When on levo I found that with every dose increase I would feel better after about a week and it would last between 2-4 weeks and would then 'crash' again and I would need more. So you might actually find you feel ok for your holiday, especially if it's nice and warm and sunny but then be super tired when you get home.

Thank you I hope so I don't think it helps being started on such a low does in the first place!

You might like to show your doctor this paper :

eje-online.org/content/143/...

The purpose of the paper was to look into how common thyroid disease was in part of Norway. Find Table 3 in the paper, put a big highlighted circle around it for your doctor's benefit, and look at the right hand half of it. It show levels of TSH in people without TPO antibodies who have no known thyroid dysfunction. In other words it shows the TSH of healthy people.

The median column shows you the level at which 50% of the healthy people had a TSH level lower than this and 50% of the healthy people had a TSH level higher than this.

So, as an example from the table, for healthy females aged under 40 :

The median (middle) TSH Level was 1.30

2.5% of them had a TSH lower than 0.37

2.5% of them had a TSH higher than 3.30

You could also point out that the middle value is not in the middle of the entire range i.e. in the example above 1.30 is not half way between 0.37 and 3.30, it is much closer to the lower number than the higher number. The distribution of values is skewed towards the lower end of the range.

I hope this is a bit clearer than mud. :)
