Is anyone taking Nutri Thyroid or Nutri Adrenal only instead of thyroid medication, and are they helping?

I'm asking because only my T3 is low and I can't get my GP to prescribe any thyroid medication.

T3 is the most important one! If that is low, you are hypothyroid!

You might find Nutri Thyroid and Nutri Adrenal help. The did help me a bit but I also need thyroid hormones. I now take dessicated thyroid.

Your adrenals may be hampering conversion of T4 to T3. There's also a possibility that your body isn't capable of converting T4 to T3 very well. It appears there is a gene that means that some people don't make the enzyme that is needed for conversion. Perhaps that is the case with you? See this link for more info if you are interested.

Bottom line; it's worth giving Nutri Adrenal and Nutri Thyroid a try. It might be that you need thyroid hormones too but you may not. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Carolyn, I am currently waiting on an Adrenal Stress Profile result from Genova, to see whether my adrenals are causing issues. From there I am hoping to cautiously try these products, or perhaps Isocort first. I've had such great help off this site and I really think I would be laid low without it.

The answer to your question is "almost". Back last October I started on thyroxine and got up to 100mg before going hyper. I quickly realised my main problem was adrenals and saw Dr P in April. I now take 4 x NAX and 2 x NT each day, along with Vit D, B12, CoEnzymeQ, Vit C and 0.5ml hydrocortisone cream. I was also taking 50mg thyroxine, but when I added in the HC cream, I reduced to 25mg thyroxine. Basically, I'm just taking it to keep my GP on board. My last TSH test was 0.2 when I was still taking 50mg.

I should add, that if your doc refuses to help you, NT is a good place to start. It is legitimately available and for some is very helpful. In my opinion it is a weaker, gentler form of NDT - I don't know that for certain, just a gut feeling. Start with half a tablet, as some people do react to it and can take time to get used to it. I didn't have a problem. I've a feeling that 2 tablets is roughly equivalent to 25mg thyroxine. That's just my personal experience and it may be weaker than that.

One of our admins saw changes in her blood tests using Nutri Thyroid. Unfortunately it wasn't enough for her but it did make a difference. It is stated that it doesn't contain any thyroid hormones at all but I don't know how else it would work so well for some people.

I do think getting adrenals sorted out is half the battle. Glad you're getting there :)

PS CarolineB and Rosetrees - I will certainly let people here know how I get on as I think it is important to share results :)

Yes that was me :) I was taking 50mcg of thyroxine the whole time, but adding in NT and NAX brought my TSH down from 5 to 0.04, fT4 up from 18 to just over range at 22.7 and fT3 up from 3.8 (I think) to 5.8. I had been feeling better p, bu when these tests were taken I was worse - du to the high fT4 I think. I'm now much better on NDT, with similar TSH and fT3 but mid range fT4. Xx

Thanks Clarebear - this is very helpful - it's strange about your ft4 - I'm thinking that it might be important to just try NAX first for a while - something I have seen Dr P advise others. And then the NT. Can I ask, did your doctor prescribe the NDT? Or did you go private?

My endo prescribed it for me after he saw the results with NT and NAX. He had never prescribed it before and was reluctant but I some how persuaded him :) I felt worse to start with but gradually better (particularly after adopting CT3M). When my GP saw the improvement he agreed to prescribe it on the NHS :) xx

Thanks Clarebear - this has given me a good idea about requesting a referral to an endo from my doc - just to look again at mi issues and test results. I have an ME CFS diagnosis which seems to be blocking any other way of my doc viewing my symptoms :(

It would be a good idea to get endo recommendations from here, as they are not all the same. Good luck xx

in reply toClarebear

Thanks Clarebear, I have posted a question about this today.

Thanks for this Rosetrees - it's helpful to get a detailed personal response - I know we are all different, but I am a little bit nervous about moving over to these supplements, even though they are over the counter. My doc is just incredibly conservative :( I haven't ruled out going to see Dr Skinner - but it will be a battle to get the referral...
