Hi, I'm new to this site. I had a thyroidectomy in 1989 and have been on thyroxin between 200 mg reduced to 100 mg since that time.

My doctor now tells me I need to reduce this as my blood test says I am 28 rather than under 22 (don't exactly know what this means). So now I am on 75mg. Have felt really unwell for the last two years but nothing comes up on the blood tests. I have put on 2 stone in weight, have chronic water retention, which manifests itself as grossly swollen ankles legs and tummy, and am always tired, irritable and suffer stomach ache and back ache on a regular basis. A friend advised me to try and see Dr Simpson in Birmingham but my doctor says she cannot refer me to him. I now have a referral to an ecologist at Royal Berkshire Hospital so am waiting for this to come through. I have also just discovered that I am gluten and yeast intolerant. So am in the process of reviewing my diet. I wondered if any of you out there have any thoughts on how I should proceed.

You simply have to get your blood test results printed out and posted here.

This gives some information about how to get them:

Without proper results we are guessing and could very easily get things wrong.

I agree with Rod.

You are probably very under-medicated, and need to get your vitamin levels checked, particularly D3, B.12, Folate, Ferritin. I too have had a thyroidectomy, and am starting to feel better on Liothyronine, as I could not tolerate any level of Levothyroxine. You may find you need monthyly/3 monthly injections of B.12, as it is a common problem with thyroid people to have Pernicious Anaemia.

Insist that you have a print out of your blood tests when you are next at your doctor's surgery.

Good luck!

Thanks, Rod and Margo, Will ask for a print out of blood tests. It's a tough job getting this thing sorted, but I think at last I am taking the right steps.
