Now I am confused - thought I was still under-dosed but now I have my test results.

OK, so in January I had a TT after toxic thyroid had made me very hyper and ill. After the op I suffered dreadful tiredness, aching and anxiety. I was started on 100 Levo and after a month this was increased to 112.5. After this last increase (arranged by Endo) I have increased the dosage to 137.5 (about 7 weeks ago). GP was quite happy with me making this decision. I am due to see Endo again in 2 weeks and so I went for blood test yesterday and I got the results today in the post. I am still weary and achy (but better than I was and also brain fog is improving) but I would have sworn I was still under-dosed and felt that as soon as the Endo upped the dose things would improve greatly.

However, the results say this -

TSH 0,052 (0,35 -4,94)

B 12 - 497 ng/L

Vit D - 34 ng/ml

Iron - 79 (50 - 170)

Calcium - 88 mg/L (85 - 101)

There was no T3 or T4 reading given.

Does this result suggest that I should be feeling better than I am. I know that I have improved but I am scared that they are going to either try to reduce my dose or leave me feeling like this. Could I have gone Hyper?

Has anyone any ideas?

Thanks

TSH without fT4 is a rarity. Your TSH is in range and your other levels should be higher. Calcium would be low because you D3 is low. You really should be supplementing at least 5000 iu of D3 p/d to get your levels up until you can get into the sun. Your calcium will rise once your D3 levels do. Iron is okay but it is your Ferritin which counts as this is your stored iron. You need to have your ferritin tested. I don't know you B12 ref ranges but you could do with supplementing B12 too. B12 is a soluble vitamin so you cannot overdose. Best to take 1000 mcg B12 sublingual tablets p/d.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter what your TSH says... it's how you feel that counts.

PS: Ask them why they haven't tested your fT4 and fT3. This is important as you could have a conversion problem or have a low fT3. xx

You cannot decide that you are over-medicated on the basis of a TSH alone. It is meaningless. Insist on getting your FT4 and FT3 tested - especially as you don't even have a thyroid! You are still on a pretty small dose of T4 only, and I'm not surprised you are tired and achey.

Obviously, I don't know how your endo will react to that low TSH, but whatever you do do not allow him to lower your dose. Stick to your guns! It is your body, your health and your life. Fight for it.

Definitely! There was recent research that shows that the TSH test is useless in people who are hypothyroid as TSH doesn't correspond to T4 and T3 levels as it should unless you have a healthy thyroid (or, to some extend, an overactive thyroid).

Definitely get T4 tested. They should test it if your TSH is out of range, which it is. Of course that doesn't mean you are over-replaced at all. TSH should not be used to decide this for so many reasons!

Thank you - I will see what next week with the Endo brings - I cannot understand why they did not test for T4 and T3 as there was a great long list of things on the prescription for the blood test and lord knows it is not easy getting blood out of me - so it makes sense to do it all at the same time.
