I am having sleep problems - wakening with a strong trembling sensation - and often have to visit the bathroom frequently (diuresis). I frequently have palpations - especially in the evenings - and these can be accompanied by shakiness. This is really getting me down! I have had blood tests about six weeks ago but am unsure if thyroid was included. Could this be a thyroid problem?

I am on Amiodarone (150mg) having had Atrial Fibrillation after heart bypass surgery a year ago and wondering if it is affecting my thyroid.
Yes, amiodarone can definitely affect your thyroid function, see

Your GP should be testing your thyroid function at least every 6 months.
Make sure he asks for all of these tests.

Hi Yes definitely, however a wonder drug, last resort so called. I have been on this and many cardiac drugs many years. Never take a Beta Blocker before your thyroid tests, the others do not give a false result as Beta Blockers but Amioderone although a must if on it , does lower the thyroid ie make it more hypo. The other thing is thyroid disease is known to bring on A,F earlier, ie it would have happened eventually. With heart problems, any sort , you need to be under a very good Endo, usually Cardio`s know who is best ,as of course, work closely together, get yours to give you a tertiary referral, always best way..If put on thyroid drugs , start very slowly., ie dose low every other day and gradually build up to script.I hope that helps.
