Because you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system will be weaker than someone who doesn't. That's because your immune system is already working on something. You're more likely to catch any bug/virus as a result.

I don't think this raises your risk of dying from it though. The higher risk of death is associated with those who have serious underlying conditions, such as lung disease, heart disease, cancer. If you don't have any of these conditions, I think risk if death is pretty low (<1% without these conditions die from the virus)

Well I had a flu bug at new year which then developed into a chest infection and I was give 2 lots of antibiotics. I ended up in A & E after 6 weeks of coughing. They gave me a chest x-ray and said I had inflammed lungs. I then took a short course of prednisolone which seemed to do the trick. I still have some pain in my ribs from all the coughing. My son who had the same bug recovered after a week. I now avoid anyone who has a flu bug and wear gloves and a scarf when out shopping. My son says I look odd with a scarf around my mouth but I don't care. I would wear a face mask if I could to protect me from any people who might be infected with the corona virus. So yes I think anyone with a autoimmune disease will be more susceptible to the corona virus. I am not medically trained but I am going by my own experience.

If we have an Autoimmune Disease we can develop more. At present I have four. We can be more vulnerable without realising it.

You are also, in my opinion, more susceptible to diseases of all kinds, including cancer, if you remain suffering from hypothyroid issues when taking Levothyroxine.

I lost a kidney to cancer in 2011 whilst on levo, now on NDT and hoping now not to lose the other as well or I'll be in really serious trouble.

Not what you're looking for?
