It's best to try and have fruit on its own, perhaps in the morning. Try not to eat fruit AFTER a meal. Fruit doesn't take very long to digest, and a heavy roast dinner does. The fruit will create a lot of fermentation and gas, and this can cause bloating and be very uncomfortable. It's always best to eat fruit before a meal.

Hi I dont eat fruit as I have found it contains too much acid.Especially apples and citrus.I have found that big meals do make my problems worse.Little and often is deffo better. I do eat a cooked meal like a roast or similar but only small portions.Luckily I dont work so never get caught short so to speak!! I am a housewife and mother and have had I.B.S. for a lot of years now and am still now only just finding out what causes my flare-ups and what I can eat. I have had lots of different tests and they cant find anything wrong..I am literally fed-up with the whole situation.I have gone Lacto-free and seems to help with the terrible cramps.I have now started taking Gaviscon liquid and so far I have stopped the diorreah. Was told about it on here and it has been very successful so far..Fingers crossed.. :)

I cannot eat any raw fruits or veggies. I have to substitute canned fruit and cooked veggies,; the raw ones produce way too much gas, and stomach distress.

I can't eat fruit at all, in any disguise, and veggies are ok if in small portions. A nightmare if going out for a meal - something I very rarely do now as it always results in numerous trips to the loo!

when I feel an episode coming on I cut out all fruit and veg. At other times I have only one portion of each a day.

i Cant eat anything with a skin, fruit veg and thing that has a skin. reason being there is alot of fiber in the skin and although that is where the goodness comes from most that is what causes my symptoms to worsen. I have chronic IBS and hypersensitivity, im 27 and suffer from this problem every day. I have seen a dietitian who was no help at all and basically told me i has to stick to liquid diet. Rubbish there are things i can eat but only in small portions.

So in answer to your question either try portions or try peeling the fruit or veg first.

I haven't been able to eat much solid food for almost a year now, certainly no meat or vegetables. Fish is always ok, if I stick to non boney types but getting my calorie intake anywhere near 1000 a day is hard. I have found that if I eat them slowly, I can eat bananas and melon has never caused me any problems. Have also recently discovered low-fibre mangoes which can make bad flare-ups worse but don't seem to cause them. Trial and error is the way forward and, as mentioned here earlier, small portion.

I can only eat bananas, I eat them on porridge in the morning, and can only tolerate carrots. I find the chocolate and cheese or bad (mainly because of the fat content) My worst night-mare is onions, leeks, chives etc or baked beans or peas.
