hi

i was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago j am 26 after having a colonoscopy everything looked fine, but one of my blood tests showed inflammation markers to be high does anyone know what that means? This was a few years ago. This past week ive been experiencing a knot type feeling on the right side of my abdomen abit higher up and its making me feel abit nauseous and no appetite. Im passing very small bits of stool, thin is a better description. Ive never taken medication for IBS symptoms can anyone advise what i could take based on the above. I am going on holiday on Friday and want to be feeling better 😭

High inflammation markers, where everything looks normal, may have been down to diet. Poor diets, including, high protein, low carbohydrate and low fibre diets can cause inflammation markers to increase. This is in part due to good bacteria in the gut not being fed properly. They help to protect the gut lining which can become compromised and allow toxic bacterial by-products from high protein consumption into the bloodstream. This can lead to body wide inflammation. A way to reduce inflammation is to have a healthy diet including fibre. A good diet for the microbiome is the Medittereanean diet, including healthy fats, small amount of lean protein, oily fish, plant protein including pulses, wholegrains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. This can be a challenge for IBS sufferers who are experiencing symptoms from a dominance of bad bugs in the gut, which can cause food intolerances. Trying a good probiotic such as Alflorex may balance the bacteria in the gut and reduce food intolerances.

This knot type feeling and nausea may be trapped gas. Try taking Rennie Deflatine to see if that helps.

Do you think you are constipated? If so, you need to increase fibre.

It doesn't sound that you are having diarrhoea and need to go more frequently, is that right? If so, you shouldn't need antispasmodics like colofac (mebeverine) or buscopan.

I wonder if you are drinking enough? It is hard to do. I haven't wanted to drink much most of my life. Now that I ensure I drink almost 2 litres a day and take ferocalm probiotic, I no longer have extreme IBS C symptoms. Also, take fibogel to ensure enough fibre.

Good luck to you

magnesium and vitamin D. Also add healthy foods obviously , raisins are high in boron that’s very useful to absorb the above
