Fibre seems to be answer

Hi all.

Went for my results after double camera and biopsies today.

All clear and I've been told I have a fast gastro reflex which means I need loo not long after I eat.

Been told to ditch the lanzaprosol as it's making it worse having loose stools.

And told to eat more insoluble fibre so my loose stools have something to bind them up and stop the pain I get with loose stools as my bowel goes into over drive trying to push these loose stools!

25 years ago I got told avoid fibre as it was making me worse! But prescribed that awful fibrogel daily and to eat bran bread, skins off jacket potatoes etc but take it slowly,

Reason - poo with no fibre is harder to pass when you have ibs d. This causes the pain.

Also told no diet - fodmap, gluten free etc will help! Eating is actually the problem.

I said well I'm glad no nasty illness but had hoped for some magic pink medicine to make me better 😊 answer was if I had that answer I would not be here I'd. Be on a island on the beach spending all the money I'd made curing ibs!

Thanks for that!

Well 25 years trying every diet under the sun medication to make it better etc who knew fiver could be the answer after being told it was the cause!

I'll try it as 25 years other advice hasn't got me better !! Nothing to lose!!

Jane, I suffered almost daily diarrhoea for 40+ years and was told over the years that I needed fibre, I didn’t need fibre, I had a fast digestive gut, try gluten free, try dairy free and like you (apart from polyps and non specific colitis at one point) returned clear tests. I lived a life of misery, controlled only by taking codeine phosphate which allowed me to leave the house but had to dispense them with military precision to avoid an accident/blockage. I was prescribed Symprove about 10 months ago and has been almost miracle like in it’s benefit although it took 3 months before any noticeable change. In the meantime I suffered a rectal mucosal lining prolapse and 3rd degree haemorrhoids requiring surgery, due to the constant diarrhoea according to my Consultant. I am living a fairly comfortable normal life now, careful with what I eat and how much (I’m quite slight and large meals especially restaurant meals seems to be a trigger to my bowels) and still taking Syprove and the odd codeine phos but happy days!

Hi there

What is symprove? Did your doc prescribe it!

I really think fibre aggravates my symptoms - ate the skin off jacket potato last night and was very explosive episode in bathroom this morning over several trips! No pain though which is different to usual.

I was advised by my Gastroenterologist to take Symprove, he rated it highly. It works for me!! symprove.com/

Gut health seems to be the latest NHS 'fashion', I was diagnosed with IBS around 10yrs ago and since then I've been told to ' not eat' this, 'eat' that, none of which worked and all that it has done is make me 3 stone heavier than I was, and now they just blame my weight for everything !!!

lizard57 you made me laugh I've lost over 3 stone without even trying ,my wife cut out sugar in her diet it's difficult to do because everything you eat has a certain amount of sugar ,,she eats porridge and a handful of blueberries with it no sugar or an apple peeled cut up into bite sized pieces, raspberries are good, or any fruit you like, experiment with food and it's what you fancy
