Bloating

Hi, I’m experiencing a flare up, mainly problems with bloating/ trapped wind. I’ve read some articles about stomach massage being beneficial. Is this safe for IBS and anyone used it? Thanks in advance.

I have this problem a lot of the time and I think massage can help a bit and there is no harm in it.

Going for walks also helps get things going and is beneficial in so many ways.

There are some exercises and poses you can try, for example lying on floor on left side tends to help me, see links (sure there are others).

Thank you for this, much appreciated. Will check out the links. I’ve been having fresh ginger in hot water which seems to be helping a bit?

When I eat in the afternoons, I suffer from the same problem. Sometimes gentle movement can help the gas come out and relieve the bloating symptoms. I also try to drink a glass of warm water.

If I have a particularly bad bloating episode, I do massage my tummy to relieve the pain from stomach cramps and to "get things moving". Sometimes I use a heating pad as well.

Haven’t tried the heating pad so that’s something else I can try, thank you.

I get this too but I have found peppermint tablets and drinking decaf tea/coffee helps with the bloating and trapped wind.

I’ve just started taking peppermint oil capsules which will hopefully help. Thank you for these tips.

My Gp suggested yoga exercises, check out Adrienne online....I tend to think walking ...and running if you can manage it...are the most effective, probably vigorous gardening too and exercycle for 30 minutes or so. I generally dont have this problem when walking regularly for 45 to 65 mins each day.Bad problems when no real decent exercise, too much driving and sitting by computer.

Thank you. Trying to keep active and doing some yoga poses. I will look at the one you suggested.

Just realized it is Adriene. But googling 'yoga digestion bloating gas' will find quite a few proponents. Adriene does heaps of different sessions all around 20-30 minutes which is very easy to fit in and she seems very good at it. A number of people have told me they follow her.

Yes. I got very constipated. I drank loads of water and did circular massage towards the left side and I unblocked within half an hour. 2 litres of liquid a day is essential to keep your system .Oving.

I haven't tried it but agree with below that exercise can help. Also I find medicated charcoal and peppermint tea and Dr Gut all helpful, the first and third one particularly for gas pains.
