hello, I undertook a .3 day stool examination in the hope that we can identify the possible cause of relentless bowel movements and stomach cramps. My previous stool samples did not show any issues so it came of something of a surprise that I do have an infection that could be behind my ongoing colon issues. The study from the recent analysis identified Mycobacterium Avium in th stool sample. My primary doctor thinks this infection could be behind my health issues. My research showed mostly lung infections but there were instances of a cause for IBS and IBD. As anyone on this forum know anything about this infection and treatments? It appears from my research that the treatment will be difficult and would require antibiotics possibly for a year. I would be most grateful for any info that can help me determine this extensive treatment.
Thank You

I don't have any experience of it myself and like you did some googling and got similar information. If you do need to be on antibiotics you could take saccharomyces boulardii alongside to protect your microbiome. This is a beneficial yeast and won't be affected by the antibiotics. In addition, you can also take a good probiotic such as Alflorex 2 hours away from the previous and next antibiotic doses as a back up. You could continue this regime for a month after treatment too. Good luck with it.
