Peppermint oils

I suffer from IBS-C for a few years now. I was told to take peppermint oil to help manage my symptoms and improve digestion along with gut health. Initially, I was taking peppermint oil but then I stopped and funny enough, I forgot what brand I was taking. I bought another one a few weeks ago in Holland & Barret but I've found it too strong as I felt a bit sick.

Does anyone know where I can buy good peppermint oil capsules?

The important thing is that the peppermint oil capsules are enteric (encapsulated) so that they break in the lower part of your abdomen and not in the upper part, so Colpermin or any other enteric capsule will do just fine (but you'll pay a bit more). I take them before breakfast and dinner and also take one when I go to bed (recommendation of Heather of Heather's Tummy Tamers - she's a great source of advice and products on IBS (but she's American, which makes it a little more challenging to get her products. Her fennel tea is great!

Hi :)

Thank you for explaining the difference between a few peppermint oil capsules sold. When I bought a different one a few weeks ago, I felt sick because I felt like my chest and throat were burning. Now that you've explained it, it makes sense.

I find cheaper peppermint capsules burn my stomach and also make me queasy because I think the enteric coating isn’t strong enough to get the capsule to the intestines and they dissolve too quickly in the stomach. That’s why I only use Colpermin which is more expensive but doesn’t cause these side effects

Hi I read your story and I have exactly the same problems as you, bloating, bad cramps needing too poo after each meal and my gp prescribed me a capsule called APERCAP I would try them if you can get them as they have improved my condition no end,,Pat in Glasgow

I tried h&b peppermint capsules many years ago but found they repeated on me. I now have acid reflux so I'd be scared to take them now. I do drink peppermint and liquorice tea which I find helpful with no ill effects. I imagine you'd have to drink quite a bit to get any effect on the gut. I have read people have found peppermint helpful. Hope you find one that suits you better.
