Peppermint tea has been a godsend . I drink a cup before going to bed and after my last meal , which is pretty much around the same time 😆

yes I take peppermint mint oil capsules for ibs, bloating, nausea indigestion etc & find them very useful. I’ve been taking them for a few years now & I think they really help. I also drink peppermint mint tea when needed & again find that helpful.

I've tried peppermint on and off for years and it doesn't help me at all. It seems to make things worse for me, so I gave up. I'm having much more success with Flaxseed and Physilium Husk.

It depends what type of ibs that you suffer with do you have ibs c or D? What symptoms do you suffer with? Peppermint is not a magic cure it is not advised if you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux as it can make that worse.

IBS c mostly , and no heartburn or reflux , it is mostly gas boating and pain

It might help you then because peppermint can make ibs D worse however it’s worth a try as it’s harmless so if it helps then it’s a bonus and if not you can just stop it.

Have you looked at your diet? The gas and bloating plus constipation could be aggravated by what you are eating and drinking. Lots of people on here have found adjusting their diet can help a lot.

Do you take any other medication? Do you have any other health issues that could be contributing to your symptoms? Are you under a gastro? Have they done any tests to rule out other possible conditions?

In fact to be precise most of the time i have normal bowel movements not even constipation bur what is disturbing is really the gas and bloating and abdominal pain. Yes i watch what i eat and im mostly on lowfodmap and im having the symptoms eventhough , will try now peppermint oil and maybe probiotics

Have you spoken to your doctor? Have you been diagnosed with IBS? Have you seen a gastro to check for anything else like had a colonoscopy etc?

Be careful with probiotics sometimes they can make symptoms worse initially ie cause lots of gas so take care and do your research.

Yea did the gastro colono and lab tests all normal; was told that the probiotics might make things worse for few days then work well

Depends which brands you try I take Colpermin and for the first time have found something that helps with My IBS c I've tried the cheaper Colomint and Holland and Barrett's version both gave me terrible heartburn , I think because they don't reach the stomach before they start to release the peppermint oil (dissolve too quickly)

hi Samyyy

I have been taking peppermint oil in a glass of warm water for a long time now. It helps with my stomach ache and bloating but I take as soon as symptoms start.

Everyone is different with their IBS but I would give it a try. Good luck.

I knew a Docter who worked on the original research for peppermint oil for ibs. what she told me is the capsule that the oil is in must be a hard capsule that cannot be digested in the stomach. it needs to go down into the intestine to be broken up and then the peppermint relaxes the spasms... she said they had actually filmed the process. hope this helps

Hi Samyyy,

Yes, I was prescribed this via a hospital request by a consultant. It calms your symptoms down quite a bit. I take 3 tablets per day, with each being 0.2ml in dosage. But after a while, ( as i got Diverticulitis too 🙄), the hospital told me to drink 3 cups of Peppermint Tea and at least 1 cup of Green Tea per day too as I have Oesophagus issues too and it's helped me so much. It's like a total contrast to how I was before with pain, bloating, etc. My tummy has gone down so much that I'm a size lower now, from size 14 to size 12. It's a natural medication which surprised me as I didn't know that the NHS prescribed things like that. I take many tablets a day and Peppermint Oil Capsules have dramatically reduced my Ibs C&D (constipation & diarrhoea), symptoms. I hope you consider getting it. All the best 😍

No, I gave them up many years ago. If you have reflux acid as well as IBS peppermint oil is astringent, it will cause you heartburn. I keep to my buscapam until something better comes along

I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner I have just read your item on here yes I was given peppermint oil capsules last year from the Doc's they sometimes can give me a burning feeling at the back of my throat if I burp/belch and it can be nasty at times when they do I stop them for a few days until it subsides and restart them again when things get bad I find it swings and roundabouts with all the Med's that I have been given Mebervine alverine Buscapans just to name a few as when things are bad I tend to take anything and everything to try and make things better I can only say that was my experience with that well I just wish you well but until anyone has walked a day in our shoes they just don't understand at all!!! take care xx

I am in the midst of trying them. I have Ibs-m (c and d. Days of constipation, followed by a sudden outburst of D). I’ve been taking Metamucil for regularity. Started taking peppermint capsules for the stomach gurgling and spasms. Let’s see how it works. So far, so good.

I think it will work, try taking it 30mins to 1hr before a meal

my C has overcome Metamucil. I still don’t go for days, then live in fear of the big explosion. Next attempt is prunes.
