have any of you been diagnosed with a hernia. My ibs and sciatica have been acting up lately. When sitting with my feet elevated, it feels like a lump of pressure low on my right side. I have appt coming up with doctor, but wondered if hernia can go hand in hand with ibs.

possible hernia

Yes i have a hernia low down on my right hand side, along with the ibs. Caused most likely by my constipation which pushed the hernia out.
I got a left inguinal hernia in 1996 which appeared 2.5 years after childbirth. I had a hernia repair and that is when I started with IBS for the first time so it was definitely a connection but in my case the hernia repair started my IBS. Got a right sided hernia in 2004 and it was also a legacy from childbirth but didn’t appear until many years after childbirth. I now know that both hernia repairs do not help when I am constipated and I use Glycerin Suppisitories to stop internal pressure in my bowel .
mine is an odd story ive had an umbilical hernia since i was about 17 but its probably been there since being born also ive had IBS for many years both D and C now mostly C but can alternate. In 2018 i developed Diverticulitis with severe abdominal distention and bloating luckily it was uncomplicated diverticulitis and i recovered . However ive noticed my hernia more due to bloating so had an ultrasound scan where they found two hernias on seeing the consultant surgern i was informed both hernias were tiny and would not have anything to do with bloating or IBS symptoms and its to do with what im eating .Ive tried alsorts to combat my IBS but nothing works
