Bad pain with constipation? : Hi 👋 I’ve had ibs... - IBS Network
Bad pain with constipation?
Try Meclizine, nondrowsy Dramamine for cramps.
Why would they help, they are for sickness not bowels?
Try it before you knock it. They will relax your bowels, which will release gas and stop cramps. Or, you can keep on asking questions == your choice.
I wasn't knocking it, I just couldn't see the relation to the bowel, I think getting a doctor to prescribe it off label may also be a issue as they normally go down the route of antispasmodics or low dose antidepressants for bowel pain, I've never heard of this med for that use, that's why i asked.
Hi, yes I get very bad cramps with my slow transit, I had a transit study done which highlighted I had slow transit throughout my colon but its worse in the left section, I get really sharp pains there and labour like cramping along the bottom of my abdomen, my GI specialist has put me on Nortriptyline to try and help with this and it has been working but lately the effect is wearing off a bit so I'm having to increase my dose, I also take movicol everyday to help things move through, as well as low fibre diet.
Anybody say anything about diverticulitis?
Hi, I have IBS-C and when severely constipated I get terrible pain in my lower left tummy. I think it is ‘normal’ to get that when you’re really backed up, I believe it’s to do with the pressure and stretching of your colon (at least that what I read somewhere). When this occurs I would dose up on laxatives to encourage the bowel movement, and take something like Buscopan to help relieve the cramping. Once it’s passed you could try taking a stool softener every day, like Laxido. To prevent it from building up to that point. Hope that was somewhat helpful.
