heartburn / Haitus hernia treatment

hi everyone,

I’m writing to reach out with regards to peoples experiences with heartburn medicine. I’ve been suffering on and off with reflux and heartburn for the last year.

two endoscopies have showed nothing sinister, a 3cm hernia and mild gastritis (at separate points) I’ve been given omeperzole intermittently, where the symptoms always come back after treatment, the doctor has given me a 8 week course of Famotidine but I fear the same thing will happen.

I’d be interested to hear of anyone else’s experiences with the dreaded heartburn !

Hi Birch-silver l have had hiatus hernia and ongoing acid reflux symptoms for many years l found after a while the symptoms do return l am on the maximum dose of omeperzole and Famotidine for a long time. l have found these medications don’t work after a while l have to be very careful what l eat and look at what triggers my episodes l eat smaller portions at more regular intervals to help manage the symptoms it can get you down. My Gp also advice me to take Gaviscon as well but l am tired of taking more and more medications l hope you work out what can help you

Hi Shanpa69, please see my post to birch silver, and see if you can try apple cider vinegar too! Do some research yourself, as long as it is ok for you of course!

Best wishes Mutley

hi birch- silver, I too have recently had acute gastritis and had to buy gaviscon again! However I also bought apple cider vinegar which has made a huge difference. I now take 15 mls of raw apple cider vinegar (with the Mother) in 300mls of water on an empty stomach every day and no more gastritis, honestly it is a game changer if you are ok to have it. Look it up there’s plenty info about . I don’t need the gaviscon now !

Best wishes Mutley

Hi I sympathise with you. I have had very similar symptoms to yourself for some years plus IBS. Omeprazol did nothing. I have a Hiatus Hernia plus had bouts of acid reflux I discovered Sillicolgel some time back & it has worked wonders. I took 15 mls in a small amount of fruit juice as it is quite gritty to taste, for up to a week before bed. Since then only take as necessary which is very rare, usually after spicy or big evening meal. Hope it helps

Ah brilliant, great to hear you’re managing the symptoms! I’ve not heard of this medication before, I’ll do some research. Are there any risks associated with it or is it over the counter ?

Not that I am aware of. Can be bought at Holland & Barrett. Not cheap but very worth it if it works. Good luc Charlesowen
