So much Wind!

Why is it that no matter what I eat 1 or 2 hours later I have dreadful wind! Nothing top end all rear end. So this year I'm afraid to go to any Xmass party's it is just too embarrassing. So loud, so long I could be an elephant!! At least no smell?? My husband is so keen to go, so I must "control myself " Does he think I do this on perpus? The Google say I swallow air when I eat. I learnt to eat over 60 years ago and never had this before. A lot g ti.e ago my Doc said it could be the probiotic I take. I don't eat a lot of spicy foods. Don't like them and Not every day. Any thoughts anyone.

I can relate!

For some weird reason ever since I started with IBS my farts have had NO smell to them! (mysterious) But oh boy the noise they make. Always first thing in the morning, and then one or two usually a few hours after dinner in the evenings, though for some reason those are mostly silent ones.

I don't do any of the things that is said cause wind such as: talking when I eat, swallowing air, eating quickly etc. I am the slowest eater, chew things so well, and am alone when I eat 99% of the time so don't chat to someone or even talk on the phone. Never answer the phone during a meal.

But still the wind but only twice a day, so I thought about it and realise I don't actually produce any more wind than the average person. It seems to all get stored up mostly for my herd of Elephant trumpeting in the mornings.

I am not particularly bothered about that. But if you are worried about eating at someone else's at Christmas, def. steer away from most "Christmas food" like mince pies or sprouts etc!

I have never been too upset about my wind unless it gets trapped, so haven't tried taking anything for it. But you could try simeticone or products containing it? For any bad smells, charcoal tablets can work, and I think I've even heard of charcoal panty liners which stop that or are supposed to. As I say, I haven't tried any of these so not sure how well they work.

I eat the simplest diet but do include as many veggies as I can which suit me.

I am the same and I am blaming the probiotic I take - need to change it to something different

never used to be like this on a probiotic but this has lactis in bif bifidum and acidophilis - think it's the lactis strain doing it

in the summer i had the most healthy gut.(very lucky) i decided to start eating a well known brand of yoghurt because of its high protein .. it contains EXACTLY the strains you have described. it has completely wrecked my system. a Dr pal has said my gut biome did not like the new intruders... we are all different.. Unfortunately it takes ages to get your biome back as i did something simular a few years ago with one of these "healthy yoghurts" ate loads and completely wrecked my gut and it was about 3 months. NEVER AGAIN !

Wow interesting that same strains have affected you - my gas/wind has never ever been as bad

Worth looking up about the gut biome because even though these stains are supposedly good they may not agree with you.

Think I have read every article - need to go back to one I used years ago never had an issue

i don't know if this is of any help to you but iv come to realise very recently that our bodies have their own wisdom of what is right for them. we are bombarded with health information... The probiotic thing needs to be treated with care, because its so new in terms of what is understood about it and not a fixed fact.. ..

Find they do help my mood TBH but think as far as bloating goes - not sure they do anything but I tend not to get sick with colds etc.

Oh and I do agree think some of them out there are quite dangerous so I am mindful of what I take and tend to go for a couple/three strains no more -avoid prebiotics if I can too. I have been looking at Myota which seems to get good reviews

I have had this every single day for years and years. If you find anything out about why please share as I am at a loss as to what to do and it is so very embarrassing xxx

Being able to break wind might be better than not being able to. I have zero power over the wind generating machine, nothing works to stop it the wind mostly just gets stuck for ages until I can end it in an embarrassing bathroom explosion. As IBS limits what I can eat for breakfast and makes it too risky to eat anything until the evening I have no choice but to eat in the latter part of the day. The wind machine dials up to 11 at night so I wake in extreme discomfort until I can blast it out and so the cycle starts again. Anyone get this? And anyone found a fix? I have a box of metronizadole: the nuclear option of killing a lot of bugs, good and bad. So far I dare not risk it.

Wind is often due to food groups. Fodmap diet may help you figure out what it is but it's a brutal diet. I am 2 weeks into it.You could keep a food and symptoms diet.

Also try 1. Peppermint which relaxes smooth muscles in the intestines and also eases the top muscle of the stomach open allowing gas to sneak out and 2. Simeticone (windeze or windsettlers) simeticone reduces surface tension of bubbles in the gu so they pop and the gas I reabsorbed or passed easily. I prescribe this regime a lot for patients I have with excessive gas.

I am a celiac so Never eat gluten anyway, I have also cut out lactose a d have been on a low fod map diet for at least a year. I have managed to reintroduced some foods, but not much. Anything peppermint just makes my reflux worse repeating All the time and the wind is at the other end anyway. I will try the windeze although again it seems to be for reflux NOT the other end, and I can't find any at the moment.

Sounds like you've tried loads. Peppermint can make reflux worse.Simeticone isn't for your stomach. I've used it in patients with distended abdomen due to bowel obstruction and also in pancreatic cancer patients who cannot tolerate croon and have explosive gassy diarrhoea

I have the same issues you mentioned, Edgar77 . I recently found that I had H.Pylori and did a triple therapy antibiotics treatment after which I felt comparitively better. I read that the treatment completely alters the gut microbiome flushing out even the good gut bacteria, so started taking Bio-kult probiotics recently. However, it seems to have made my bloating, trapped gas, wind and stomach gurgling worse. I'll stop the probiotics supplement for a few days and see how that goes.

Pedrof1976 thanks for your suggestion about simeticone. I'll check that out. Would you know if it's recommended for long term use for IBS?

H pylori was the first thing my Doc tested me for, but it was negative. I have stopped the Pro biotic for a while. Early days ut I think the wind has reduced. I am going through a flair up at the moment, but I've had worse. I hope it settles down before Xmass. My husband has made lots of plans and will sulk if I can't join in.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. IBS does really get in the way of our daily lives, doesn't it! I'm practically thinking about this 90% of the time and, lost a lot of weight recently due to diet control, anxiety and depression. Do make it to all the plans that you think you'd be comfortable enough to attend. Your well being and comfort is most important. So prioritise yourself! And I really hope you feel better

Hi so simeticone is fine for longterm. Use, but it's for the wind that people experience. It would help reduce the gas causing all the bloating.
