Impacted bowel
Hi. Yes me I think. I’ve been told I have a partial redundant bowel after a recent colonoscopy last year. For the last year or so I’ve had trouble with stomach and bowel. I started feeling really unwell this time over the course of a month or two and discovered that again the bowel stopped working regularly and then completely for a few weeks.I’m now on 4 Fibogel a day plus Lactulose and finally it’s started to move but it isn’t easy and it causes a bit of trauma each time. I get awful discomfort in the upper stomach usually before I need to go to the toilet and I have awful reflux. Can you let me know if these are your symptoms please? Added to this I’m unable to eat greasy or fatty food or sweet things now!!
Thank you so much for your reply. ( I am very bad at getting back to people because in all honesty you just dont want to be feeling like this and having to use this site) Anyway everything you have described I can identify with. Ive had this problem over 30 plus years now but last few years has progressively got worse. Ive tried to keep on top of things with a combination of lactulose/senna but this only really achieves shall we say passing " rocks" and yes a lot of trauma ! On this occasion I actually thought I was medicating quite well but approx 2 months ago another impaction which until I went to A&E twice ( scans confirmed loaded bowel) GPS absolutely useless. So I have been put on various doses of laxido which is awful stuff but still dont think I am clear and feeling very unwell .
I have had a telephone consultation with a specialist who wants me to take Picolax and moviprep every fortnight to clear my bowel plus movicol in between but I cant do this I just wouldnt have a life ( not coping with 8 weeks on and off with movicol )
Also like you reflux is terrible but have cut out anything fried ,greasy etc onions, leeks cucumber oranges sprouts doughnuts all set me off but cannot give up chocolate/cake !
At the moment at a very low point so apologies if I dont sound very supportive . Take care
Hi again, please don’t apologise at all as you’ve been very supportive and thank you for your nice reply. I agree totally that this awful feeling of being unwell and not being able to eat and drink and live like we want, really is exhausting and incredibly depressing. I’m so sorry that you are going through all this too and for such a long time. It’s very frustrating when a bowel just doesn’t do what it should be doing naturally and it does make you feel so isolated doesn’t it? I recently mentioned to someone that the things we can take for granted for so long can suddenly take over such a huge part of our life and change so much for us for no reason at all, or at least no reason the medics can find. I’m thinking of you and hoping so much that things take a turn for you for the better soon. ❤️
Dear All,What a great reply for all of us out there with bowel problems. I also feel isolated as I have to plan every outing days before and make sure the laxido isn't going to work when I'm out. Leakage huge problem with of laxido but need several sachets a day. Then end up with leakage. If I don't take lots of laxido I wouldn't open my bowels. Tests show slow transit and we all know impossible to treat for many of us. There is not one bit of my life that it hasn't had an impact on. Probably too much detail but especially family life.
Have one close friend who has been there for me throughout all my crisis.
I just want to go out and about and not constantly in pain which has been diagnosed as adhesions from previous gynae surgery.
Coeliac is another story and I think these days we are all afraid to complain as we know everyone in NHS doing their best.
I'm now clutching at any straw ! Now plant base cook extraordinaire ! Family trying hard to join in with this one.
So I say to us all try anything and every thing even if we do seem a bonkers crowd!
Thank you all for support good wishes and hate to be soppy but I feel the love!
Let's just keep the messages going!
Dolly
Good morning,
Thank you for your nice message too. It’s a bit of a nightmare isn’t it? I’ve just had an awful night with upper abdo swelling and the most horrendous acid reflux. I was so fed up with my usual chicken /fish diet and so last night I dared to eat some grilled sausages and this may have been the cause. Also, whenever I have tea or water before going to bed, this starts problems too. I’ve been off work now for a month and feel as though I’m not much further forward which makes me feel very low,
However, we must all keep going and share ideas. Thinking of you. ❤️
hi,
I know it’s a long since your post, but just wondered if you are better. I’ve just been diagnosed with impacted bowel, they said it was vey high in the colon and will take a long time to clear, over several days of high dose laxido, they have me 3 enemas but said his won’t shift because it’s too high up, just got to take high dose of laxido. Did you manage to clear our bowels in the end.
Hi
Yes it is a long time and reading your email seems you are in a similar position. I have to say it has took ten months to finially clear my bowel with numerous trips to A&E, and appointments with a specialist that just kept increasing the dose of Laxido to the point I just didnt have any control with my bowels and lost so much weight .( The actual dosage of Laxido is very much trial and error AND there is definitely a time lag so be careful increasing) Ive only got a bit more back to normal since July when unfortunately I went down with Oral Shingles ( something you really dont want to get) which also upset my stomach and have not needed to take laxatives ( first time in my life!) Unfortunately Im still not right with all sorts of mouth complications including thrush and the medication for this is also effecting my stomach. I guess the only bright side of all this is I am not having to take Laxido! I do hope you get yourself sorted out though. Let me know how you get on .
