still not diagnosed but concerned about IBS

Sorry for lengthy post I am new here.

I started an antibiotics course (one week) Doxycycline on 24 April 2023 for throat infection and fever,as soon I finish it, I started having diarrhoea. That time I was in very stress and depression for another reason. It's been almost over 9 months now. Diarrhea is sometime frequent but i am constantly losing weight.

I had done blood test, several stool tests but still no clue. Last time i found a bubble like structure in poo which i sent a photo to my GP so they advised for another stool test to check for infection and it was positive for Giardia infection. Then it was better for a week but it started again after a week. So I did another stool test on 31 August. and there was no infection.

In the beginning it was continuous diarrhoea, those days i lost 5-6 KG weight. I contact my GP and they asked me to take Probiotics which i did but it did not help. Then i started taking Psyllium Husk (Isabgol) which was helping to control diarrhoea since then my weight was controlled but I was still concerned about it as if there was anything serious. Stool tests were clear and i was prescribed Mebeverine 135mg three times a day to check for a couple of weeks but they are not helpful as Psyllium Husk was. Recently i made changes to my diet. While avoiding fried foods, wheat breads, certain fruites like watermelon and beans are helping while avoiding these food. But still I am concerned if there is anything wrong as I never experienced such diarrhoea before. Now my weight is 59kg and before my weight was 67kg. My waist size has reduced to 30 from 33.

I have no idea,

Anyone else here suffered the same?

IBS can be triggered by a gut infection. This is what happened in my case. Not all probiotics are the same. I got on best with Alflorex which has been scientifically studied for IBS. Others get on well with Symprove. The bad bug in your gut will continue to hang around. It is up to the good bugs in your gut to keep it under control. This is where good probiotics come in to start off that process. Perhaps try one of those first (I can only recommend Alflorex, since it worked for me) - give it a 3 month trial and see if it helps your symptoms. If you can get your symptoms under control, then try to eat as varied diet as possible - the Mediterranean diet is the best for the microbiome, providing lots of feed for the good bugs in your gut helping them to grow in numbers. Good luck.
