IBS for about 16 years

I don't know whether this will help anyone who suffers with IBS as everyone is different, but I have suffered for many years. I take Lanzaprazole 1 a day. I use to get diarrhoea so many days then constipation for 2 days. I tried different meds which were not helping so I tried the root of 3 figs in the morning with breakfast porridge. This certainly helped regulate me but I had pains in stomach as I think figs pushes through the digestion system quick, so looked for another alternative which was raisins. I have a handful of raisons in porridge every morning for the last 3 months and I am regular every day, no constipation or diarrhoea, but you must drink 2 small glasses of water after eating as this also helps. This may not work for every one but might be worth a try. I am now also trying the gluten free diet as I do still feel bloated at times but I don't have any pain like I had before. Only been on it for 1 week so far, will let you know how I get on. Good luck to everyone who is suffering and I hope we all can find a solution to our problems.

Hi , glad you seem to have found something that helps. It's good to see a positive post as this helps everyone else keep persevering until they find what works for them. I haven't found my "cure" yet, but still working on it for IBS-C. I'm now largely gluten and lactose free after starting the FODMAP and on prucalopride to aid transit. It's all trial and error but hopefully getting there.

I too have suffered with IBS for 20 years now. I dont want to make any medical claims but myself and my partner went onto low carb diets purely to lose some weight and we both found our IBS symptoms dramatically improved. Worth a try 🤞

Thanks for the info Lostintherun, I dont really need to loose weight just control how much I eat . It's hard as we all know, I wish you luck on your low carb, going to talk to GP this week to find out if I should be on this gluten free or not, will mention the low carb. Thankyou

Thanks for sharing. We're pleased you've found what works for you.

However, what works for one person may not work for another. We always recommend keeping a food and mood diary to find out what works for each person.
