I have suffering from a IBS flare-up for the last 3 days, And the cramps are constant and very painful!!! And nothing I try reliefs the pain from the cramps!! And now I'm constipated too. I normally take buscopan for the cramps, and it usually works good. But not this time!? It does NOTHING!! The cramps are constant!! And they are extremely painful, and make me feel very sick!!! And nothing I try gives me relief!!! I've tried suppositories, enemas, laxatives and prescription medicine (buscopan)..
And nothing works!! I can't sleep, I can't eat.. I can Barely move because I feel soo bloated, its massive pressure in my lower stomach!!
I'm thinking I'm going to end up in the hospital. I JUST WANT THE CRAMPS TO STOP, AND THE PAIN TO SUBSIDE!!!
You know what, Beamer? I would say ring 111 and get some advice. This might just be a right b**ch of a flare up or it could be another thing like Diverticulitis etc. Get checked out. If you don't want to wait for what 111 advise, just go to A& E.
Edit...sorry I hadn't noticed if you're in the UK or not. If so the above applies. If you're in the US 111 doesn't apply. so just go to the ER
Thank you for the advice Luisa, I appreciate it. And I'm in Canada. I live in Edmonton in the province of Alberta. And the medical system here is a joke!!
Yes it's free. But remember one thing.. you get what you pay for!
The politicians of the provincial government have decided they know better than doctor's. And they questions the doctor's constantly!
And the result is a complete breakdown of proper medical care.
And a province full of doctor's, too afraid to prescribe anything stronger than Advil.
Hi my step sister lives North of Edmonton at Fort st John. But they used to live at Calgary when first moved there in 50s from UK. Love the Autumn colours there. I have diverticular and IBS. Lately having a bad time, bloating is really uncomfortable, but mostly down to wind. Diverticulitis per se has slightly different component. It's normally an inflammation of the little pouch, but this is usually a pain on the left hand part of the tummy, you usually have a high temperature and sometimes needs antibiotics. A bit of blood in stools is another sign. I went in hospital overnight for that, but fortunately it was small blood vessel near the diverticular that caused it. Constipation is awful, constipation I think years ago caused my diverticular through straining, you could get a scan or colonoscopy to see if you have one I was about 62 then at that age diver is more common. Depending where it is, you get a little thickening of the area, this can cause gas, and of course difficult to know if it's IBS or is a diverticular undiagnosed. Best to get that identified. Buscapam, I take to has various degrees of success with me. But only one that really helps at times. Best of luck mate
Agreed, if it was IBS the Buscopan should bring relief. You could also have HPylori a very overlooked problem but extremely common.
You may have fecal impaction now as nothing is working. This is very difficult to move and you can get to flow pass which is when you have soft stools bi-passing the constipated stools which remain in the colon.
I take all remedies I know work for me if I do not have a bowel movement each day, constipation is nothing compared to fecal impaction.
I take a medicine call Domperidone which aids the digestion and increases the movement of food through the stomach.
Cheers

Thank you for the reply. And I was concerned about fecal impact, but tonight I was finally able to have a bowel moment, a rock hard one too.. hahaha... so things are finally moving.
And my bloating has subsided.

Sounds like you have gotten to the bottom of it, that will be a relief!
Try a heating pad or hot water bottle for the cramps and bloating. I get relief from cramps from mebeverine or No-Spa, which is drotveriniumchlorid. For the bloating , also try charcoal tablets, strong fennel tea or chewing fennel seeds. Your case sounds more severe than what I usually get, but you may get some relief from the trapped wind. Also, look for the yoga poses for relieving wind.
Please go to a Dr. ASAP. I had unbearable pain & was diagnosed with IBS. I have a prescription for pain meds, which saved me from constant pain. Mornings were and still are the worst. Anyway, after 8 years of having no life, I went to the ER with pain I had never felt before. I had emergency surgery that took half my colon, due to a blockage & a large cancerous tumor. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that metastasized & Colitis. I’d been misdiagnosed for all those years & numerous scans & colonoscopies. I had months of chemo & am now cancer free (YAY).
I know it’s hard when you have constant pain, but you must have a thorough exam & don’t let them get away with an IBS diagnosis because they haven’t or won’t get you tested for other intestinal issues. Hope this helped.
