hi everyone, I’ve only recently been diagnosed with ibs I’m 18. I wake up every morning with nausea and sleep through the night with a very uncomfortable feeling in my stomach kind of if you were very nervous sort of feeling. The nausea is becoming really bad where my body cannot stop heaving, even if there is nothing more to come up. No.1 how can I help the sickness. No.2 how do I stop this uncomfortableness at night time because I just want to have a good nights sleep.

Poor you. Sleep is needed at all ages. So did you tell your GP about this symptom? What exclusion tests did he or she do?
It sounds like a build up of gas. Nausea can be common with IBS, due to this build up of gas, but heaving isn't are normal sign of IBS. Having said that, this happened to me for the first time in decades with IBS a couple of weeks ago. I think I ate too many different vegetables in the same sitting (I'm normally pretty careful about this) and my gut reacted by producing a huge amount of gas overnight. I think the heaving was related to the fact that there was so much gas, my body wasn't eliminating it, so it was trying to figure out a way to get rid of it.
If you are in this situation, a short term measure is to try Rennie Deflatine which helps to eliminate gas from your system. This should reduce the nausea and subsequently stop the heaving.
Secondly, the inability to move gas through the system so that it ends up pooling can be partly related to poor stomach muscle tone. Core exercises might help a bit. You also might find you eliminate some gas in the process!
You are probably intolerant to a lot of foods. Alflorex probiotic, which has been scientifically studied for IBS may increase your level of tolerance. Additionally, Bifidobacteria contained in Alflorex can inhibit gas producing bacteria in the gut without producing gas from fermentation themselves. Perhaps give this a 3 month trial and see how you get on.
If that does not help or help enough, ask for a GP referral to a dietitian to take you through the FODMAP elimination and reintroduction diet. Ideally you want to eat as many FODMAPs as you can since they are good for you. Try Alflorex first though, otherwise you could be eliminating some foods unnecessarily.
Good luck.
Thank you xjrs. What is Alforax? I don’t think we have it here. I agree about Deflatin but you cannot find it anywhere due to the current shortages. I will go on line today and see if I can find it . Amber307
It sounds that you have almost answered your own question saying your tummy feels nervousIt may be anxiety.
When you feel this coming on do some slow deep breathing and if it is anxiety this will really help.
Try some dry ginger which is sold on most supermarket shelves with the dried fruit as this helps with nausea.
Get yourself an accupressure pen.
There is one called Pain Pen but there are many others.
Use this over the inside of your wrist.
It will give a slight sting.
I find this works for nausea.
Find a meditation site on line, they are often free. Try to use this to lower your
Anxiety.
If all else fails please see your doctor.
thank you for your suggestions I will definitely try those tips. I’m pretty sure it’s not anxiety because it seems to be most of the time I have this feeling but I dont have anything that’s really playing on my mind. I have tried ginger and peppermint teas and it seems to work quite well so I’m sure that dried ginger will be great, thank you! Also, how does the pen help with the nausea? X
Hi there, my thoughts! The gas is created from the bacteria fermenting inside the gut when they digest your food. So either too many of them, or too many bad ones. Can you get checked with a stool sample? Flush out the gut and add a good simple probiotic. Yeast overgrowth will cause problems especially if you have taken antibiotics. Lots of info out there. Doctors just want to give you drugs. All the best. Kay
Sorry to hear you are having a bad time. Are you drinking fizzy drinks that can cause a gas build up. I had nausea at about your age they never found out what it was but they then said probably IBS. You could try keeping a food and symptom diary to see if any thing shows up. Let's hope the tests are done soon x
Hi. I used to get horrible nausea some hours after eating. I have IBS. I have been taking Alforax and I have noticed some improvement. I still get nausea with some foods but it doesn't last as long.
Also, I found pureeing/blending vegetables helps and eating frozen fruit (not apples but I don't have issues with apples). So if you want boiled brocolli and/or kale, for example. Boil them and then whizz them into a soup/puree. Tastes just the same, like having soup, and I seem to be able to deal with it better. You can get frozen fruit chunks from the supermarket and I wash grapes and then put them in the freezer. Maybe all of this is psychosomatic but I am not going to overanalyse it - if it helps, it helps. Good luck Chrissy!
