Hi everyone. Have IBS D since 2018. Just wanted to ask do You tend to pass motion after eating or over eating a big meal. In my case if I over eat I pass motion which is normally not diarrhoea. And I feel much better. Almost always no pain. Just a bit of gas and acidity sometimes .Would like to hear people’s experience on the same. Thanks 😊

I think what might be happening is what's known as the "gastro-colic reflex" when food input triggers peristalsis lower down as the lower gut gets a message there is incoming food to process, and the colon's response is to empty to make room for it.

To a great extent this is quite natural I think. And with IBS, our whole gut activity and nervous system is more sensitive than the average person.

But it's good your bowel movements are normal and not diarrhea.

I have weird thing that happens to me too which is probably based on the gastro colic reflex. I feel my gut moving inside when I brush my teeth! It doesn't always make me do a bowel movement, but often makes me pass wind. The message of "incoming "something" via the mouth triggers it!.

Yes especially if i have eaten bread or stodgy food. Trouble is i only feel better temporarily, then as soon as i eat again i can feel it again. Horrible lump in my stomach waiting to pass

sorry to hear that. It normally happens to me only when I eat larger portions. But I do experience that lump in my stomach as well 😮

that’s very interesting. Yes I have heard about gastric colic reflex. Though after my IBS diagnosis my gastric colic reflex is definitely become more sensitive. Definitely will read more about this. Thanks so much 🙂

sorry to hear that. I had posted earlier about my experience with IBS and pain. I have not had much pain with my IBS from the beginning. Only gas pain.
