Does anyone with sudden episodes of D ,not long after eating feel like their insides are rejecting something they don’t like . This goes on for a few loo visits , sort of purging everything out then much better.
For example, I take potassium citrate mixture for preventing kidney stones . It has a vile taste and took it today with real Sicilian lemonade with breakfast . Before this I felt fine ,then straight after taking this , it was like an instant laxative. Once all ejected all seemed fine again.
Very inconvenient and odd when we are regularly told things take many hours to pass through our digestive systems .

It certainly does take 6 hours for food to reach the large bowel (from which diarrhoea occurs) - and quicker with liquids - but that ignores the fact that peristalsis tends to start when the pyloric sphincter at the bottom of the stomach closes to stop undigested food going straight through to the small intestine (and to provide some space when the stomach empties). This is normally a gentle movement, but we IBS-D sufferers tend to get more of a spasm; the reasons might vary from person to person, but you might try mebeverine to ease it and/or Alflorex whose bifidobacterium has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects.
Also, avoid fizzy drinks and juices containing a lot of fructose, as these are a common cause/exacerbate of IBS-D.
I’ve had this so many times I’ve lost count. Blame it on the gastrocolic reflex which controls the motility of the colon. In us IBS-D sufferers, who have heightened visceral sensitivity, the very act of eating provokes an overreaction of the gastrocolic reflex. People who don’t experience this don’t realize how debilitating it can be. I hope you figure out something that helps.
Hi Icanchangethislater,Following your reply and noting that you have experienced this motility of the Colon issue often , I was thinking about it more .
I assume , like me , although it happens quite often , it does not occur after every meal and it can vary in intensity . Sometimes even just pain and gas , other times worse with a bad dose of D. Sometimes one episode of D then okay and other times , a flare up that can last maybe a day or two, sometimes feeling nauseous too.
Do you think this relates to what you ate or drank and it is something your system does not like that causes this gastrocolic reflux and increased motility ? Otherwise , I would think it would occur every time food is consumed no matter what it was .
Just a thought and wondered if you had any thoughts on this .
I’ve experienced everything you’ve mentioned. And, no, it doesn’t happen after every meal. I just finished the low FODMAP diet, both the elimination phase & the re-challenge phase. It took almost three months and I did not have one episode of diarrhea, not one. But I didn’t react to any of the re-challenged foods. Maybe I have a higher tolerance and need to consistently eat large amounts of high FODMAPS, which I had been doing. The IBS gut is a mystery in many ways, and not a fun mystery. I do know that anxiety acts like an immediate laxative for me. So frustrating.
Again , thanks for replying . Interesting and a mystery as you say but certainly no fun . It does though sound as if some foods , more than others can set it off , rather than just the result of consuming food in general.
Thanks for replying. It was a bad day. The sudden reaction after feeling fine was so extreme . It would be really awkward if this occurred when out somewhere. I think that was a worry .
I was supposed to be playing golf , had to cancel and just as well !!
i get this all of the time, in the morning, and evening mainly. i can give it between 2-20 mins sometimes is really quick sometimes its a little delayed and i think its not going to happen.
usually when im eating i feel all the rumbles and movements.
i get an unusual thing where i get extremely hot, sweating, pain in stomach and back then ive got to run to the loo. i have like 5 min max to get to the loo.
