IBS flare up for several months and prolapsed haemorrhoids

Hi

I have had IBS -D/mixed for nearly 20 years now, I am nearly 74. In the past, I would have plenty of times where it was a lot better and pretty manageable. But for nearly 8 or nine months now, it has been wiping me out and most of the morning has been lost with pain and having to lie down.

I have read all the wonderful advice on here over the years, so I am going to go back to eating a very boring diet and very little of it to see if that helps.

My real question is about haemorrhoidectomy. I know there have been discussions here about it before. I was referred to a colorectal surgeon a couple of years ago and he recommended it, but I was managing alright then. Now I am not managing so well.

Reading lots of posts on various forums, it seems that the surgery can be very painful for quite a while and can also be very debilitating. I was wondering too if haemorrhoids would re-occur, particularly as I see no time when I would be without IBS.

I had internal haemorrhoids banded several years ago, and I found this incredibly painful for a few weeks.

Please would someone care to comment about your experience? Was it worth it? How long was your recovery period?

Thanks

Hi Jackie I hope this comes as a comfort for you.I had internal hemorrhoids which was very extensive and had a operation 20 years ago the pain was bearable. The first time you pass motion is make sure you have some laxatives as it can be painful. To this day iam careful with my diet drinking plenty of water eating veg and fruit daily.I had some flare ups from time to time all because of exerting and pushing when passing hard motion. If you have this flare up doctor will give you ointment or depository for a week or so until swelling goes down.Hope this answers your fears for having the op.

Thank you very much for your reply Kibrisli. This is very helpful.

What sort of operation did you have, please? Was it banding or surgery? Thanks
