I had an endoscopy done and results showed I have eosinophilic esophagitis. I was told my anti acid/gerd medication I was on Protonix was not helping me so was prescribed Omeprazole. Has anyone had this and what did you do to get better? Also, did you find what foods caused it to happen?

eosinophilic esophagitis
Hi, I tried Omeprazole but it wasn’t very effective so am now on Esomeprazole 20mg twice a day. My main triggers are alcohol, refined carbohydrates and acidic foods like tomatoes, citrus, pickles etc. I also find it better to eat small amounts often, and definitely not within 3 hrs of retiring to bed. Try not to sleep flat, I use 3 pillows.
We are all different and some things will work for us while others won’t. I hope you find the remedy that works for you soon as it is a horrible condition.
Hello PurpleEllie,
Sorry to hear about your having to change medication. My experience of Omerprazole was fairly ok to start with. I'd tried Lansoprazole and just got really bad stomach pains with it. Omerprazole was prescribed to me for Acid reflux in combination with the Reflux Esophagus I have. It was explained to me that my Esophagus didn't work properly & the flap at the end of it didn't close, or stay closed when it should. As a consequence I'd get acid, etc travelling back up into my mouth, bouts of vomiting, oils etc, and stomach ache, which was just awful. For the best part of about 8 years I took it, then it just didn't work as my old symptoms started again and adding Gaviscon advanced did nothing to help. Now I take the stronger version called Esomerprazole which has been ok so far, so I'm really happy with it. Hopefully the Omerprazole will work for you. The explanation from my gp really helped me understand more and stopped the anxiety as I felt more in control. All the best 😍
Hello MDipp. I have been taking Omeprazole for over 20 years with apparently no side effects. Although I sometimes voice my concerns about long term usage my GP sees no necessity to change. If I miss a dose reflux returns the next night. I wish you well.
