Severe stomach pain then a Lansoprazole prescription

Hi, in December I started experiencing severe pain just under my left breastbone (towards the centre). The pain was almost ‘stinging’ in nature. Like I had a paper cut which is dipped into vinegar. I had a racing heart/palpitations and truly had never experienced pain this bad. I also had pain lower down in my abdomen. Like stomach cramps. This all disappeared but then flared up again in Jan. The Jan flare up was awful and I went to see the doctor. My doctor referred me for an ultrasound as thought it might be gynaecological (I am 53 and I think fast approaching menopause). The ultrasound showed everything was ok but that my coil had slipped into my cervix. Not the best result but that’s now removed. Before this scan I went back to the doctors saying I think it’s my stomach. The doctor did a test for H Pylori which was negative. Also a FIT test which - I’m waiting for the results.

The doctor says it’s gastritis and I agree that the Lansoprazole has definitely reduced the pain. But after taking 30mg in the morning by 6pm I’m so bloated and uncomfortable. I also feel like something ‘sticks’ when I bend over. Sounds weird but don’t know how else to describe it. I also have intolerances to Wheat, Gluten, Milk and Eggs. I’ve cut these out of my diet totally. And also eliminated alcohol since Jan 1. Just looking for similar experiences I guess. I have had a huge amount of stress over the past 7 years. My husband died suddenly in 2016 and my partner then died suddenly too in 2021.

I can only say that the death of my partner, menopause, the dementia and death of my mother, a court case and divorce from a partner over a 20 year period made my IBS and reflux much, much worse. I simply couldn't digest what was happening in my life. So I took PPIs, they helped. I share your food in- tolerances and have given up alcohol. My project now is to recover. It will take a long time, I think.

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m so sorry for the amount of stress those losses and life events have caused you. I do believe stress (even though I thought I was dealing with things at the time) is probably the underlying cause for me. Yes the PPI is helping me too. I hope very much for your recovery.

Hi Teddy36,I used to take Lansoprazole aswell but because it gave me basically the same symptoms as you've had so I stopped taking it. Perhaps try something else that doesnt disagree with you. I take Meberivin for my stomach cramps and sometimes I take Peppermint oil capsules to help relieve the symptoms.

And by the sounds of it with what you said about close people no longer being here then that sometimes can contribute to feeling the way you do. If something has affected in your life you begin to feel that in your daily routine because it's in your thoughts.

Maybe anxiety or something like that can make you feel the way some of us do.You feel stressed and you feel nothing is going right.

Not what you're looking for?
