has anyone used Buprenorphine patches and had extreme stomach pain? I have started using them this week and I am having severe stomach pain which is also making my back pain worse due to all the cramping? My stomach wasn’t good before then however this is next level bad and I’m not getting any pain relief from the patches so I’m wondering if I should take the patch off and see if things calm down because now I’m in more pain than when I first started them. I am just wondering if anyone else has tried Buprenorphine and had the same thing or other side effects from using it? Do they ease the longer you use the patches for?
Many thanks

My husband was prescribed pain relief patches. They took about a week to get into his system. Once established, they did work. Your health care team should be able to tell you if this is the case with this drug.
Thank you this is day 6 for the patch so I don’t change it till Tuesday but still no pain relief I’ve had to add the codeine back in as they are doing nothing I thought they would work or at least do something I have my pain management specialist on Monday so I will talk to him as I’m wondering if they need fat to be absorbed and I have it on my upper arm which is skin and bone so it could be why as it’s very odd for me I’m usually so sensitive to drugs. Thank you for the info I hope you have a good day
It might be the effect of opiates. Opiates are hellish for stomachs and bowels. Do you have constipation? My Gastroenterologist has advised me to try and refrain from taking morphine or high dose codeine because it makes constipation so much worse and that is my main problem. I would try and up my fluid intake and take additional laxatives to counteract the opiate side effects. Hope you find some relief soon.
I took it in pill form and not patches. This was before I was diagnosed with IBS. This was for joint pain relief. Within 10 minutes, I had cramps, threw up and was dizzy for some time. Never took it again and listed it as an allergic reaction.
Yeah mine is for my spine as I have osteoporosis and have injured my back to the point I can hardly move or walk so I need the relief and have the patches due to my bowel issues so they are absorbed through the skin but they don’t seem to be doing snybribr but I’m thankful I didn’t get the reaction that you did as that sounds awful. Did they try anything else for your pain?
I reverted to Naproxen, paracetamol, attended CBT sessions and changed my diet after doing an elimination diet. After months of unsuccessful treatment with the rheumatologist, my extensive joint pains was due to perimenopause and was sorted out by HRT. Happy ending to that awful phase of my life.
