I have IBS-C with visceral hypersensitivity (functional abdominal pain). I experience this as lower back pain in the early hours of the morning as my colon is preparing for a BM. It took me ages to figure out that this was IBS related. I visited a chiropractor and this did nothing for me since it wasn't related to my back as such. I did notice that the pain came on more when I ate certain foods. When I had a CT colonoscopy, it was more painful than it should have been from the filling up of gas. That is how I got diagnosed with visceral hypersensitivity.

Linaclotide (for IBS-C only) and Alflorex probiotic have helped me most with the pain.

Wow, I am impressed that anyone looked that carefully at your symptoms. I had a colonoscopy ( which I couldn't tolerate because of excessive pain) nut was made to feel a bit extra sensitive about it, although I very nearly passed out). Also, the only thing they were looking for was cancer, which I didn't think I had) and, as it transpired that I didn't... I was discharged. It's cancer or nothing. So am still struggling with terrible constipation and awful pain, made much worse after eating). I was prescribed Prucalopride.. but still in pain and completely blocked. Not sure where to turn next? Private?

You could ask for Linactlotide (Constella). It reduced my pain by 50% to 60%. When I added in Alflorex probiotic on top of that, my pain reduced to zero. It only comes back when I am being challenging with the foods that I eat, but I can eat much more without being in pain. Have you tried either of these? I would highly recommend trying Alflorex first. This may make you more tolerant to making the gradual increases in your fibre intake needed to help with the constipation. I find I need much more fibre than the average person to have BMs. I also gave some tips about constipation here:

THANK YOU for replying. Getting a but low now after a long time of debilitating bowel problems. Huge bloating and now daily considerable pain in my left side too. Odd that that pain seems to go round to the left and back over the iliac crest and then fownwards as well. I have been prescribed Laxido for years and they been increased to silly levels per day. 5 and 6 sachets on occasion. I did have a bowel movement but nowhere near as satisfactory as uould expect with that amount. Then it slowly stopped.

I then changed over to simple fruit and Allbran for breakfast and that worked fine for a while. No longer. I can only oass wind when I am lying down.

As I said, I did have a CT colonoscopy which showed nothing untoward.

It's strange but I do feel I have food transit, but only up to a certain point. Then it stops and pain and problems start.

Only a little reaches the any but is so hard, I gave to manually extract it. (Sorry ghastly, I know). I do drink plenty of water.

So saw a Gastrologist a couple of days ago and she simply put me on Prucalopride. I know I have not been on it long enough... but it has caused a lot of lasting pain and all I want to do is sleep.

I just feel that this is not the right solution for me either.

I am pleased that you have been able to discuss it with your GP. Sadly, mine doesn't seem to think it's an issue at all.

Any advice would be hugely apporeciated.

Thank you.

I know with Linaclotide the pain effects are not at their maximum until 10 weeks. You might need to give Prucalopride some time or ask to switch to Linaclotide . All the advice I have is in the link provided, especially trying Alflorex and the dietary advice. Good luck.

P.S. Perhaps I should say that I have also had a lower back injury ( caused by a Physio) affecting the sacrum and coccyx, plus oelvic floor muscles, like the Coccygeal muscle. I now suspect that because these muscles are in spasm, passing any motion from those points is very difficult. Gosh... I am sorry this is so long. X

After suffering for 9 years of this crap, I can pray you find relief. This is the best source for help. I just had an MRI. They found nothing again. I had to check out if any other problems had arisen. When you are sick with severe pain every day, I suspect I could have a number of problems which the daily pain could mask.
