Update on endoscopy

Hi all hope you are well,

I had my endoscopy this morning and I have just got back from the hospital. The procedure was uncomfortable but wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

I received my report after the procedure.

It's state's-

Hiatus hernia 3cm

Oesophagitis grade A

No infections

No cancer found

I am very relieved that it's nothing serious, that is a massive weight off my shoulders.

I am I bit gutted about the hernia as I've heard it might effect my weight training but I suppose if I take it easy I should be alright, Its not the end of the world.

I just want to say a massive thank you for everybody's support and kind messages, it really helped me and the reassurance everybody gave me really put me at ease.

This forum is the best I've signed up to.

Thank you very much to each and everyone of you 🙂

Oh silly me! I posted just now on your other thread to see how things went, before seeing this update.

I bet you're relieved. Did they recommend anything for the gastritis? I had that when I was a young teen, and it was a very bland diet for a few weeks, and some antacids to suck. Back then....ages ago. It went, got better in time for Christmas I remember!.

So, no infections. Does that mean no H. Pylori too?

Brilliant that cancer's all clear! The hernia is a bit of a nuisance though.

Hi lusia,

I've just realised I have wrote gastritis instead of oesophagitis 🙄 what a walley!

No there's no infection in my stomach, so I'm glad that's all clear and ruled things out for me. I've just got to get to the bottom of my stomach cramps, funny coloured stools and loose stools now, maybe it's something to do with my small intestines?

Yes im definitely relieved there's no cancer, that was the ultimate worry.

Hope your well.

What colour are your stools? You've already had a colonoscopy haven't you? Beginning to think it's IBS for the both of us.Going to ask for my calprotectin to be retested as im off the PPI for the camera test.blow there theory of their ppi causing inflammation out of the water lol

Hi just read your comment. You aren't taking Omeprazole by any chance. That was a side effect they had on me when I was being treated for oesophagitis. All the best

Hi Paula,Wow that's a lot of endoscopys! What symptoms are you experiencing if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah I will try and go abit easier on the weights now I think. From what I've read on Google, it says you shouldn't lift weights but I cant give that up. It's a big part of my life.

Sorry if this is tmi but my stools are sometimes brown or like a very light brown but when I wipe it's like a green colour, bit confusing really? Sorry if I've just knocked you sick.

As with the calprotectin I'm not sure why mine was raised? I've been taking ppi for years but I've never had a level of 185 with other stool samples I've done in past. Sounds like a good idea to get retested and see if anything has changed? What was your highest calprotectin level if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for you're reply.

Hi I've changed my profile name to Paula instead of Georgie as everyone kept assuming I was male.Georgie is my cats name.I was talking to you on here a few days ago as we have identical symptoms. My highest calprotectin so far is 244.

I was told by Gastro that brown is brown doesn't matter what shade.thats normal.

Green nothing to be too concerned about lots of things cause that.Eating leafy greens, medications, coeliac, ibs and a rapid bowel movement through the system

Well that's good and should relieve a lot of anxiety. How's the Fodmap diet going?

Glad to hear all went OK.....I'm sure your training shouldn't be affected as long as you take the meds they give you. You will find the foods that you can and can't tolerate 😬 I was told I had a hernia years ago and manage to train but probably not to your standards lol after a scope recently, another consultant said there's no sign of a hernia which is so annoying after taking meds for it for years! 🤷‍♀️

Having had a few endosocopies they are not so bad, just grin and bear, I too have a hiatus hernia, along with other things, just do not lift too many weights that is the problem, it doesn't help, good luck with it all.
