Hey everyone. So, I’ve not posted for a while- looking for some advice. Around a month ago I had 2 large internal hemmerhoids banded (I’m from Scotland, UK). I felt fine afterwards, if not a little uncomfortable and sore around the area.
I had been having rectal bleeding after the procedure, however after about a week- I had a massive bleed (toilet bowl was full of blood, I phoned NHS 24 who wanted me checked in A&E). I arrived in A&E, and all my vitals were fine. Nurse said I needed checked out, however it was a 5 hour wait in A&E that night and as it wasn’t urgent I could contact the nurse who carried out my procedure the next day. Fast forward to the next day and I phoned her. She told me it was normal to experience blood (even though it was huge amounts and I was freezing afterwards), and it should start to heal soon.
I am still having bleeding issues. Past 4/5 days I’ve noticed some very dark/plum coloured blood in my stool, been feeling very cold, and have lost weight- along with just feeling very unwell. My question is, given my history- should I contact my doctor tomorrow? I have an appointment with my IBS nurse, but it’s not till 14th of December and I’m unsure if I should wait till then. Any advice would be greatly appreciated- thanks!

I am working first thing in the morning, will try and get an emergency appointment afterwards, many thanks for your advice. Much appreciated, my thoughts was it wasn’t normal too!
Hope you have managed to get into see GP and all s well. If you can’t try phoning 111 as f they think it is needing attention they will either contact your GP and tell you to make an emergency appointment ASAP or will suggest A and E.
I have not yet been to the doctor. I have instead contacted my IBS nurse, so am waiting to see what she says. As I am not particularly keen on going to the GP if there is no need to. My doctors surgery is not particularly good, and do not show much care so I really do not want to go if it is not needed. I will hopefully hear tomorrow morning.
Update. Had an email back from my IBS nurse, apparently this can happen after banding. But if it still hasn’t cleared up in a few days, she will arrange for me to get a flexi sigmoidoscopy to look at my lower colon and rectum. So we’ll wait and see. I think it needs looking at anyway tbh.
The good news , I would think, is that procedure has probably worked. I had same banding procedure a few years ago and nothing happened , it simply did not work. Also carried out by NHS in Scotland. I did not fancy what they proposed next , so turned to alternative medicine.
I would think seeing a doctor is definitely the way to go as it sounds as though the bands have eliminated the piles but bleeding is not stopping . You cannot go on bleeding until next appointment. See the Doc.
Well I have still not been getting any further with this. The bleeding had (or so I thought so), calmed down. However yesterday I again had a lot of black/plum coloured blood in my stool and horrendous pain in my left side. Emailed my IBS nurse who said come in and see her on the 14th of December and we’ll take it from there. I am honestly at my wits end here. I’m so so so tired, it’s making me feel awful at work. I’m so lost and do not know what to do. Currently on a bus and feel as though I’m going to explode (tmi I know lol). Any suggestions? Absolutely shit feeling like this at 22 😭😭😴😳
