What tablets are you taking?
Dioctyl 3 times a day
Ah, docusate sodium. I take it 4 times a day. It's an osmotic laxative, so won't necessarily work instantaneously like some of the other ones. It's not addictive, though, so is fine for daily use.
have you tried milk of magnesia that’s always like rocket fuel for me. I use it after surgery and when I’ve had lots of nasty drugs it upsets my system so I clear it out with milk of magnesia. The dosage for laxative use is on the bottle I take 20ml at bedtime and that’s enough for me but chronic constant would need more. Worth a try x
prune juice is natural and very effective.
The best thing that I've used is a really old remedy from my grandmother that's always worked for constipation and bloating - it's just one cup or small mug of hot water and at least two or three tablespoons of sugar, it's ridiculously sweet but it's really effective.
Natural ideas....A good spoonful of honey, and a black coffee on the side early in the morning. A glycerin suppository or two?
Lentil soup with carrots the evening before. Or eating beetroot with lettuce the evening before.
Things that always made me "go" before I got IBS-D! Apples, oranges, satsumas, pears, grapes? Bran flakes. Brown rice. potatoes with skins, Vitamin C chewables, particularly the ones with sorbitol. If those don't help, at least you have boosted your immune system.
Failing all that, a huge no-no for IBS but can work a treat even though it's extreme. That is a shot of brandy with your coffee in the morning ! Obviously no if you have to drive! Alcohol really speeds up the gut. I have used this as a last-ditch remedy if ever my D swings over to C and resists everything. Works well and quickly, but one is in a bit of a "festive spirit" for at least an hour or two !
I know IBS constipation often won't respond to these things. But maybe worth a try?
Can everybody tell me what there ibs can handle and also kinda take away are OK with ibs I mean tonight iv had chicken. With peas and sweetcorn and galic mushrooms how ever I don't think the galic will do me any good 2morrow 😫
hi Ella, too many peas, sweetcorn and mushrooms are not good for IBS. Also onions and garlic irritate the gut. The low FODMAP diet is very good for trying to find out what irritates your gut. Hope that helps.
gentle pilates is good, stretches and warms up the insides, gp said almost casually, "weak muscles" - thought about it- think she is right.
