Not sure I understand your question. If you're wondering about how long an IBS flare lasts, it's very variable. I've had some for one day and some for a whole month. I'm sure others have different ranges.
Doing something about it (meds, say) can definitely help them along. What are you taking / doing for it? Do you have C (constipation), D (diarrhea), or A (alternating)?
Diarrhoea no meds yet waiting on tests had it for 6weeks
Hi,
In my situation, since I was diagnosed with a functional bowel disorder in 2019 (most probably IBS), it's every day dealing with the symptoms like bloating, pain, nausea, (slow transit) constipation (because of the pockets of gas in my small bowel?), overflow diarrhoea, dysautonomia and chronic fatigue amongst others. Also my depressive disorder and anxiety disorder are probably the result of a dysfunctional gut and I now assume, based on my current knowledge and experience, I must have had this since my childhood (I'm 53 years now). It won't go away unfortunately and I just have to deal with it.
After all the examinations till now, I have, as far as I'm aware, one medical option left and that is the chronic cyclic use of a suitable antibiotic because of (suspected) methane overgrowth. I've had a good experience with a course of amoxicillin and clavulanate combination in the past (2002) and also with a tetracycline (1989 and 1990). Both for other diseases but the overall result of the use of these antibiotics was that I was feeling really well for the time the antibiotics were doing their work in my body. I'll have an appointment with a consultant of an university hospital in the second week of December to discuss this option for treating, as it now seems, chronic methane overgrowth in my intestines.
