I've had a lump in my throat for the last 13 hours. I woke around midnight with it. It's not particularly painful and I can swallow although it's uncomfortable and at times difficult to do so. I'm drinking plenty fluids and I've taken gaviscon in case it's reflux, which I've not had since I changed my diet years ago. Nothing is helping.
The last thing I ate was a tiny tablet at about 10pm yesterday. I'm not even certain it's IBS related and I can't pinpoint a cause. I'm starting to worry,I've done a bit of Google searching but I doesn't really help because there's too many possible causes.
When should I be thinking about going to my doctor?

Could it be maybe not gut related? A slight bug or something? Apart from Covid there have to be summer colds doing the rounds as they never disappear. Some 'sore throats' are different from others. I hope it goes away soon.
That's what I'm wondering. If you Google it says it's either a stress reflex but I'm not stressed, or reflux, which I've not had in years but could be as my gut hasn't settled from the last big flair-up, or stuck food but it started 2 hours after a tiny tablet so that seems highly unlikely. I have to regularly check for COVID so not that and I've no symptoms of a cold, virus or an infection.
I'm not panicking but I am concerned as I've never had anything like this before and it's weird. I was hoping someone would say "I get that and this fixes it" but no joy so far 🤷
Right, yes. If it was a bug coming on, in all those hours you'd know by now with other symptoms. I got that once, way before IBS, and it started after I took a multivitamin. I thought it had stuck, and kept drinking warm teas, drinks, anything but nothing shifted it but on day 2 it just went away. So I don't know if the tablet maybe did get stuck for a few minutes and caused some tiny irritation in esophagus or what?
The tablet you took couldn't have got stuck a little bit and until it melted just irritated something on the way down could it?
I'm thinking that's what's happened as I'm much more comfortable today although it's still there slightly. Feels more like bruising now than something stuck.
sometimes a tablet can stick to the wall of the oesophagus, and drinking doesn't help-if you eat something, that usually helps to get it on it's way if it is something which has stuck!
I tried that but it didn't work sadly. It gone completely now so I think the tablet got stuck and then bruised or irritated my throat causing the discomfort.
Get it looked at, thats the only way to be really sure
It might be Globus, which is associated with reflux, and gives a feeling of a lump in the throat. However, as others have said, if you are concerned, ask for professional advice.
Thanks all, it's easier today so I suspect the tablet I took got stuck and irritated my throat. I'm not a fan of doctors (white coat syndrome) so I'm always trying to work out when I really need to go rather than just not go until something is falling off!
I have the same thing, I often feel there is a lump or blockage in my throat. I was sent to the ENT department at the hospital, I was given a Barium Swallow which shows some thick liquid going down your throat into your stomach. When I went to my GP she fast tracked me through on the cancer fast track just incase it was throat cancer she didn't think it was she just didn't want to wait. It turned out to just be Silent Reflux. I also had an Endoscopy a camera down my throat which shows I have Gastritis caused by the Naproxen I was on for a while. It is always worth getting these things checked if you are worried enough to ask the question.
I doubt they'd give me barium due to my medical history and I've sworn they will never put a tube down my throat again the last time was way too traumatic and the wrong test because my GP was useless but that's another story.
I honestly think is just bruising from a stuck tablet as I'm much better today.
I'm glad things are better and easier with your throat today. I am the same. I won't go to the doctor's unless something doesn't resolve naturally in a few days or I can't cope with it myself...or instincts really fly a red flag.
As mentioned I'm not abnormally stressed or anxious so not likely a trigger. I think it was just a stuck tablet that caused a bit of irritation as I'm now fine.
