going on holiday

Hi everyone,

So I haven’t been on holiday for around 7 years. A few days ago for some reason I decided to book a last minute break.

I’m really excited but now the dreaded anxiety has kicked in! It will be a two hour car journey and all I can think of is what if I have a bad “accident” in the car. Yes I will prepare myself by taking a little ibs kit on the journey with me but just want it to all be fine! Any tips or experiences to share to make me feel a little better?

Thanks

I find that taking two Imodium the night before calms me down and eases the anxiety enormously. If necessary I take another one first thing on the day of travel, depending on how I feel ( ie anxious or ok!) Hope this helps and you enjoy your holiday!

I agree with Angie51B. If I have an event coming up, I take loperamide, starting with one tablet two days before, one the day before, and if necessary one on the morning of the event/travel. I never take more than one because that slows me down too much and I get cramps. Even if I don't 'feel' anxious about something, my gut always knows better, which can be a bit awkward, but as soon as I set off from home, I am OK. Best wishes for you holiday.

I agree with the two previous comments. I take Loperamide one or two tablets, the morning of travel. As an extra precaution, perhaps have a spare set of clothes and some wet wipes to hand.If you are still anxious, even with these precautions, you could try some sanitary type pads. Although really designed for urinary incontinence, positioned strategically, they will provide reassurance. There are many different levels of protection available. I have used these sometimes. Tena do ones designed for males and but these would definitely have to be positioned differently for IBS problems.

If you get the pads which SueCats suggests, you will find that the womens pads tend to be cheaper. I was looking into this recently as my husband was having trouble with piles and the cream he was using was soaking into his underpants, so I suggested he try some of my pads.

Hi, I have had ibs for years but was only actually diagnosed with it a few years ago, I have to take a few immodiums before I go anywhere ( loperamide are cheaper on line), try this and see if it helps or ask your gp for them.

The tenna or always pant type provide more reassurance than pads I find

I'm going away in September not been anywhere for a while although I did manage to get to America in 2017 and bloody loved it. All I can say is try not to over think it and at least in a car you can stop and take a break. Take an emergency kit like spare clothes, wipes and loo roll just in case.
