hot weather effect
Hello , no I don't notice the weather having effect in that way at all ,but I do recognise, appointment ,nerves and I can be sure my IBS will play up,and like you I have many times cancelled, but now unless it's really bad I push myself to go anyway , and it's usually OK........touch wood ,and if its your bowels that your there for it might be good ,as its easier to explain how you feel when your actually feeling it , hope this makes sense ,hope you feel better soon xxxx
I usually push myself to get there, but this was a step too far. I thought if I cancelled early they can give it to someone else. It was not a gastro appointment though I am seeing my Doc next week and will push for one AGAIN. This was for neurology mainly to confirm fibromyalgia.
I was not worried about this appointment as it was an afternoon one and I'm usually OK by then, but not so much lately.
I get worse sometimes when there's a weather change. I was ok in the first few days of the heatwave, then it clouded over and got very close and humid, and that's when I got worse. It might be the humidity. And I remembered we need to drink more when it's humid. So have you got some electrolyte drink or bottled water which contains electrolytes?
Sometimes plain water with some salt and sugar added will help.
I wake up sticky in bed even though it's cool when I go to bed, so I know I must be sweating a bit. When we sweat we lose electrolytes. Also not sleeping as well can make a difference to symptoms I think.
Hi everybody, sorry for the lack of communication lately. This subject I bought up last year, so here's a rundown again. People with IBS which includes me, have a particular problem with heat stress. We all have a substance called seratonin in our gut. In very warm weather the levels seem to get disorganised, leading to disturbances in the gut that effect IBS sufferers disproportionately. Ideally you should aim to drink a lot more water. Avoid for a time, fast food, spicy, food and fizzy stuff. Barbecues are bad news, but hard to pass up an invite to one. Canned fruit and lollies are OK while struggling, but ice cream being dairy will cause trouble. If you must have a little ice cream choose a plain vanilla, not the fat laced exotic ones like caramel, etc. I suffer from heat stress many years. I don't like it over 70%f. Hope this helps and sorry your suffering on what is a known effect on us, and is a real nuisance while trying to enjoy the summer👍😎😎
I am the same. I am IBS-mixed but more prone to IBS-d but when hot weather hits, especially when it’s as bad as atm I end up with an awful gut. It gurgles lots, I feel really nauseous and have very soft stool. It’s bad enough getting through this heat without having a bad tummy too 😩
Edgar77, pain, stress and heat especially sweating cause loss of magnesium that may result in cramping. Magnesium is needed to activate vitamins D and B1 also called thiamine is needed by the brain, vagus nerve and gut for proper function. Activated thiamine is needed to activate B6. The B vitamins work better together. A comprehensive list of anti thiamine factors which diminish or destroy thiamine is in the stuttersence link. The remaining links offer information to discuss with your doctor.
