hey everyone
I have just been prescribed 20mg of Omeprazole. What are everyone’s experience with them? Did it help the bloating/feeling full symptoms?
Thanks in advance x

Have me very itchy bright red rash around my armpits… so stopped it. I’ve been on this for 5 days now… Digestif Mix by SugaVida… unbelievable improvement in my digestion. Might be worth a try.
Hi, I have been taking them for years, usually just one a day but if the reflux is bad I take another one at night. I have never had a bad reaction to this medication. Then again I suppose I am lucky as I have never had a bad reaction to anything I have been told to take. I was prescribed it primarily for a hiatus hernia. It has really helped me. I hope the reaction settles down and it works for you.
I took them when I started with GERD / Reflux before having a Gall Bladder operation.
After it , the GP still wanted me to take them , and still does , because I also take other medications.
I got the stomach acid balance back some months after my operation , and decided to try using diet to do the job instead.
I started using natural live probiotic yoghurt with a little honey for breakfast , and a spoon or two with my meds before a meal ( I put herbs or spices etc. In that and use it as a dip with crudités veggies).
I had , had to go on a very low fat diet for my gall bladder anyway , I have continued to be careful about what fats I eat.
I also learnt to eat 5 small portions of food a day instead of three big meals.
I cut out artificial foods , most processed foods and don't eat too much sugar or too many white carbs.
I usually have ginger or peppermint tea , or a mint or ginger oat biscuit after a meal.
If I am getting a bit more acid because of IBS or an infection I eat simpler meals and don't use spices.
When I eat bread I have sourdough or bread made from old grains like oat , rye or spelt.
I take one capsule of Turmeric a day and drink lots of cool water as recommended , especially in sips with meals.
I sleep on my left side with my head and shoulders raised on pillows to help stop stomach acid travelling up towards my throat in the night , causing coughing or burning.
I go for a gentle stroll , about ten minutes after a meal if my other health issues let me.
All my little diet changes helped reduce stomach acid so I tapered off the omeprazole .
Two weeks on one a day then , two weeks every other day , then none.
I have not needed them since.
I would take them again if I had to, for short term situations, but I found they increased my joint and muscle pain from my other conditions ( and that pain is bad enough).
You could take them while you get the reflux under control your diet changes sorted out then when you have a new diet regime for a while try and see if you can cope without them. If the symptoms return , it's not worth suffering .
Well you seem to have got it taped! Well done. However, someone on here a while ago suggested Centaureum drops, to rebalance the acid and to help with a hiatus hernia which I have, so I tried it and my symptoms have lessened greatly. I take 15 drops in water before meals, always in the morning, (but sometimes forget in the day) and it has helped-it doesn't taste nice, but then stomach acid doesn't either! Sometimes I mix it into yogurt, or a flavoured drink, but I prefer to take that than an antacid, as we do need the acid for digestion.
I took it for a few weeks at my doctor's suggestion but when the first batch was used up I stopped because it wasn't helping me in any noticeable way at all.
Hi, yes after I was diagnosed by accident on a CT scan I never ever had after contracting Community acquired Pneumonia, I was found to have not only a diverticulitis, but a Hiatus hernia, Surprised, as mother had one. It can give you medium to nasty gastric reflux. But After finding out more about it, I decided to only take it when I have a later than normal meal, or Im having a takeaway with wife for tea. It does the job, but continued use of it, unless you need can cause some problems. Acid is necessary to break down food an nutrients, These PPI Inhibitors, stop most of the acids effect. Some people may get soft poo, personally I dont take enough to have an effect on that. Just remember it should be used only if you need it, rather than daily. I don't get any itching with it
I have omeprazole for silent reflux. It is one of the things that occur when you have a low thyroid function apparently. It helps me and do not have side effects.
Have been using 2 Omeprozole daily for 15 yrs at advice of drs suffer severe ibs
Well guys I’m on day 3 and the results so far have been great. I feel slightly normal now. The doctor has given me them for the next 2 weeks and then we shall review how things are. Thank you all for your experiences.
