Exhausted after normal stool?

Why is it that even when I pass a normal easy stool I am left exhausted to the point that I have to lay down for at least 10 minutes with the shakes.

It's called "bowel-triggered myalgia," and is not uncommon. The most commonly cited culprit is the vagus nerve.

I have it bad. Not sure anything has really ever worked for me - maybe some Gatorade or pressing hard against my stomach with my whole hand, right above my navel.

Thanks for that. I thought it was probably the dreaded vagus nerve. Do you know if it is likely to get better or worse. I mean does it vary.

I don't think it's even recognized. ☹️ Bring it up with your doc (even your gastro) and you're likely to just get blank looks.

There used to be a website for it, btmassociation.org. If you Google "fatigue after bowel movement," you'll get some information, but nothing like this community. Here are the closest I could find:

dinet.org/forums/topic/1293...

quora.com/Why-do-I-feel-tir...

My first post in this site was about this. Crickets, as I remember.

Me to. Almost like I’ve finished a workout lol

Me too, although my evacuations are seldom normal in any way other than ‘normal for me’…my version of this exhaustion after my less ‘normal’ evacuations involves sudden onset overheating, syncope, massive saliva output, urge to vomit etc…I have to lie down till it all subsided - takes me at least 15 min to recover enough to just get up & wobble on my feet. Am 68 and my version of this is due to early onset connective tissue disorder & immune dysfunction comorbities affecting my whole body inc GI & nervous system

I dont get the shakes but i do feel exhausted after a large bowel movement, sometimes it lasts the whole day. I usually have to rest or try and take energy drinks

me too. Clearly my nervous system fails to keep blood pressure etc. up. I take a dab of Testosterone cream to pep things up. I know I have a shortage of it (I’m a female) and I know my adrenals are weak. I supplement all the hormones and Test. works especially for this.
