hello, I’m posting here again as my IBS symptoms continue up to worsen and the hospital and doctors cannot find anything wrong and yet I continue to struggle. I am taking Zoloft which has helped with the pain but the amount of soft stool I am generating is relentless and completely fills my colon. I try laxatives but in all honesty it comes back worse when I do. I have multiple orange soft stools throughout the day sometimes huge amounts, It’s all the more concerning because I eat so little. One doctor says I have IBS C because on the chart it looks like hardened stool. Another tells me I have IBS D because of the continuous loose and soft stools. It’s so unending I don’t know what to do anymore. I hope someone on this forum can offer some advice as I spend my life either sat in the toilet or cramping and bloating with the need to go to the toilet. And this is all the time, every minute of every day, It’s all too much and I’m not able to cope
thank you

I would question your Dr about the side effects of Zoloft. It's not for everyone. They may need to change the medication. IBS is not a disease, just a label we are given when they don't know the answer.
Try to go to an academic medical center, even if you have to travel. If you are in the US, every state has at least one and some, such as NYC and Boston have several. You also need to be seeing a gastroenterologist, as a GP will not know enough to help. xx
If the stool is still orange when it is eliminated as a bowel movement, it could mean that the stool is not being exposed to enough bile salt, or it is not absorbing enough. Bile is a yellowish-green, and when it reacts with the natural enzymes present in the bowel, it turns the stool brown.
Not Absorbing Bile
One reason that the stool is not absorbing bile is that the stool is moving through the digestive tract too quickly.
This rapid transit could be caused by one or more of several different conditions, including diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Lack of Bile
Another possible medical cause of orange poop is an actual lack of bile. Not having enough bile could be because the body is just not making enough of it. A second reason could be that the bile ducts are actually blocked.
It suggests getting a gastroenterology referral so they can run some tests.
Hi My stools are often orange too and I was told it is due to too much fat in your diet. I had my gallbladder out and since then my stools are orangey more often. Obviously digesting fat is harder without a gallbladder. I do try and stick to a low fat diet. But sometimes I treat myself to Chinese takeaway. I also get it on some meds even paracetamol.
I do think is has something to do with Bile and digestion.
Its likely to relate to bile salt - BAM. There are tests for this and so speak to the gastroenterologist rather than the GP. They will check and if needed given you meds to help. I know of this rather than have it myself so cannot be more specific.
Sadly I identify with your feelings and symptoms. My problems started to worsen a year ago with actual bowel incontinence at times. GP no help at all would not refer to Gastroenterologist so had to go private. Exhaustive test and apart fro diverticulitis (active) nothing definitive found.
3 months on and 2 weeks ago I collapsed at home after being unwell and told no GP Appointments available-ended up in hospital for a week. I was in kidney failure and had Colitis and was loosing bright red blood pr.
Diagnosed as GDH POSITIVE with C. Diff infection my condition was serious.
Now home but still with bright orange loose diarrhoea but still on antibiotics, asked if I was classed as having IBSD and told an emphatic NOyou have a bowel condition.
My point being don’t let it go on too long they MUST find a reason. I was just told to take Loperimide which sometimes worked but now been told this just stopped the ‘badness’ coming Out.
So my advice take Loperimide a day before eat very little from the day before and unfortunately buy incontinence pads and have a change of outfit. Sounds like a day spoiler but you can only take precautions and be prepared and then enjoy the day.
