Could be gall stones?

If the pain is under the right ribcage and radiates around to your back it may well be gall stones as mentioned by JWUK. It could also be cholecystitis, which I have, where 'sludge' builds up in the bile duct. If it is mild antibiotics can do the trick. My GP prescribes Co-amoxiclav 500/125mg. Please see a doctor, my last bout rapidly led to jaundice and liver infection and I ended up in hospital. Good luck and I hope it subsides quickly.

Hi wb54,

I get pain everyday under my right rib. It intensifies immediately after eating and if I'm stood or exerting myself. If I'm sat or led down the pain will ease off. Does this sound similar to you as so far my Dr has drawn a blank?

Kind regards

Hi it seems to have moved to just above my belly button and below the sternum now

This is probably gastritis. If you are not take a high dosage vitamin C supplement to help the body help itself.

Could it be a build up of gas? I suffer badly from this, and it tends to be under rib on left or central high up, when it makes me feel nauseous. It can be painful as well. I’m currently taking Rennie Deflatine and Buscopan. Sometimes helpful, sometimes not.

Hi yes it could be a build up of gas I had an ultrasound scan the other day and she said I would have to come back as she couldn’t see anything for bowel gas

If it is gas, it can be very painful. I always try and lie on my left side with my right arm on the mattress behind my body, does that make sense. I find it relieves the pain and might help with your problem. At least you had an ultrasound which should prod your Doctor into exploring further, definitely not a hiatus hernia I suppose?

I’m not sure unfortunately they couldn’t see much because of the gas so hopefully find out on Monday on my next scan might be a hernia not sure if an ultrasound will pick that up

An ultrasound can pick up signs of a hiatus hernia if the operator is actually looking for it. I hope you get some answers on Monday.

yes a Hiatus hernia should be discounted. I was found to have a medium one back in 2016 when I was having a CT scan for something else in hospital I dont eat late and take my Omeprazole when needed

Your transverse colon runs between your sternum and belly button so could be just part of IBS. I have this too and find that massaging the area helps as does putting a hot water bottle against it.
