Probiotic Acidophilus - any side effects?

I was wondering what experiences people have had with Probiotics? The brand is Lamberts and its the 10 billion dose, just 30 tablets if that makes a difference. I have only been taking these for two days and visiting the toilet a lot more. Three trips this morning and its a little soft. I have IBS-D and am on quite a few other meds after an op in Feb 2022 but can normally go a few weeks without any diarrhoea. I did check with a pharmacist that the probiotics are OK with my other drugs.

Should I stick with it for a few weeks? The internet suggests the soft stools are normal and it will settle after a while. I dont want to feel worse and need to gain weight not lose it.

The Nutritionist recommended taking it after breakfast. Thankfully I have a 6 week follow-up appointment but I cant speak to her in between appointments as this was arranged through a charity.

Grateful for any help. I have seen probiotic comments on here before but couldnt find them today. Hoping my symptoms are typical and I just need to persevere.

I took a course of these to see if my symptoms would improve, but I noticed no difference at all so did not continue. They did not make anything worse. I did start by taking one every other day in case of side effects.

Thank you Whitesugar. I was hoping someone might suggest every other day. I'm not convinced they are helping but a Nutritionist is recommending so worth a bit of a trial. Gotta keep trying things.😃

I took the same brand over 10 years ago and had to stop taking them as they caused regular diarrhoea.

I am taking a probiotic Symprove. At first it did make symptoms worse. But after a while it did settle. A pro biotic is balancing the bacteria in your gut and needs to get rid of the bad bacteria. It can take a while to balance things out. Take care

Thank you. Thats encouraging. Shall have to persevere and be prepared for a dodgy start to the day.

Another question please. How long did you take it. I was told to try 30 capsules.

I started with the 12 week course and then I carried on with it.

I took lots of probiotics and am sure they had a part to play in making SIBO worse . If you have slow transit or are older they might not be a good idea.

Thank you! Interesting. I am still not sure if they are helping and I definitely fall in the older and slow transit category. Maybe give it to the end of the week. Tough decision when recommended by a Nutritionist but we are all different in what we tolerate.
