IBS Bloat

Does anyone have any remedies they’ve found for IBS bloat? I’m constantly bloated. I’m not joking when I say I look like I’m I the early stages of pregnancy, I’ve even been asked before. I’ve tried all the ibs diets, I exercise daily and I take probiotics everyday…yet bloat and gas rules my body :(

Hi, gas from hydrogen or methane producing organisms in your intestines? At least that is what it is in my situation as a result from dysfunctional intestines. I think I have a malfunctioning MMC, migrating motor complex (motility issues causing constipation predominant IBS). I need to take bisacodyl 3/4 times a day, to help my intestines. Also trying to reduce the amount of gas by taking berberine, garlic extract, cinnamomum and now also oregano, a mix of natural antimicrobials. I'm trying to target the methane producing organisms in the intestines that as I feel it cause dysbiosis. Am I free of symptoms? No, not at all unfortunately. Despite the fact I had no luck with probiotics till now I recently did order a specific probiotic strain because I still hope I will find one that's helpful for my body. I want to try LP299v because it could help in absorbing iron in my small intestine. I have had a low hb for a long time now, am chronically fatigued. And when there is less iron available in the intestines I hopefully will also 'kill' some more methane producing organisms because they feed on iron and hydrogen amongst others, as far as I'm aware off. LP299v can be helpful for bloating / distension research showed. The only way to find out if it's helpful in your situation is to give it a try for a month or so. I need to open the probiotic capsules and will take half of the contents because from experience most probiotics contain a dosage that's to high for my body to deal with. I weigh approx 60kg and am approx 5 feet 10

Thats an interesting read, I wonder if this could work for me. I'll try to have a look online to find a brand that sells it. Thanks very much!

I did a quick search using Qwant.com and found this one in the UK supplementhub.co.uk/product...

I bought mine in Germany.

And this one cocooncenter.co.uk/ipsen-sm... It's the one I want to give a try for some of my symptoms (gas and iron absorption).

Also thinking about asking my GP for a new referral to an university hospital in the region. Want to discuss the Pro and cons of longterm (chronic) cyclic use of antibiotics. But maybe the gastroenterologists have some other ideas to treat the symptoms as a result of my dysfunctional intestines. The gastroenterologist at the 'local' hospital can't do more for me than they have already done, hence the referral to a university hospital.

looks good but has potato starch in - is that a safe filler for us who seem to suffer from all of the nasties in a product

We can only try to find out if our intestines/body agrees with it. Normally I have an adverse reaction within a couple a days as the result from the intolerances. Just 🤞🏻again 🙂

There is no real point ingesting lots and lots of good probiotics if you dont increase your fibre intake.

Secondly...if you dont try to close those loose junctions....then the yeast will continue to flourish in the deeper recesses of the bowel lining..

The missing link has to be FIBRE...

Feed the probiotic..with good Fibre the only one that never gets digested by the stomach comes from green bananas...they have low glucose and make their way into the lower bowel undigested....this is manna for Probiotics ...others are ...porridge....leafy greens...cabbage.

Adaptogens that build good gut microbiome...spirulina/cholrella....andrographis....ashitaba...allicin.

Close those loose junctions!

Akkermansia closes loose junctions in the lower bowel ....loose junctions can hold yeast and bad bacteria which resist treatment plans...leaky gut is the result.

ingutwetrust.org/akkermansi...

Yeast loves sugar ...there are over 50 forms of sugar...sadly our western processed foods usually contain one or more.Allicin...apple cider vinegar and ginger will reduce yeast in those deeper crevices of the mucosa...which is why kimchi sauerkraut..are good starting points to reduce yeast.

Yes garlic will produce a reaction with yeast and produce gas as it kills off the yeast cell...which is why people stop using garlic thinking its the garlic that causes that gas...once the yeast has gone...the gas stops.Allicin is garlic extract...rather the by product of crushed garlic.

Fermented foods mean the process of digestion has already occurred prior to eating so no gas gets produced after ingestion because the yeast/sugar action occurs before during preparation....so no added gas.

Sorry do you mean eat green bananas? Porridge oats don’t seem to agree with me, I have lettuce most days and also spinach regularly too. I’m not much of a cabbage fan though

in reply to Jenna5

Yes green bananas go straight past the stomach undigested...and down into the gut where probiotics love them....Cabbage is good for mucosal repair...so ideal to heal ulcers and inflammation....its really the glutamine...so you can use glutamine instead...or zinc carnosine..another mucosal healer.

Hi Jenna , I have tried lot's of things , however, the only thing that helped me was going gluten free. My bloating and IBS symptoms are much less since I did . Hope you find something that helps 🤞

It could be you have become intolerant to yeast. Avoid eating bread, rolls or anything fermented for a week just to see if you are. Yeast can cause wind in the gut leading to bloating. Other things to avoid are the obvious foods like beans, garlic, onions, cabbage, sprouts and greasy foods (burgers). Hope this helps.

Same here. I look the full 9 months 😂 Morning walk, drinking water, alcohol free and fodmap helped when I did it for a month but all went downhill when I started reintroducing foods. And haven't managed to start it again .. hope to one day 😂

Therapy 😆. After a long time avoiding my own feeling, anxiety/fears/past trauma I had to dig deeper into myself. I remember when all those ibs symptoms started something like three years ago. They mostly gone now and I eat and drink wtv really (specially garlic I eat it raw, keeps the vampires away 🤣)

But I do remember trying all those temporary reliefs techniques like peppermint, apple cider vinegar, lemon with hot water in the morning, food map, yoga, meds etc etc. Nothing really worked and its was no way of living. Actually Dr.Nuzum digestion detox worked....for a while.

In my case it seems it was really connected to my nervous system always being in alert, unfluencing my stomach. And my symptoms were really intense. Don't they always say the stomach is the second brain eh.

Anyway I am not saying its the case for everyone like me, but it might be worth a shot. Ibs is one of those where you feel a part of you and your life has been taken away and it really sucks when it can lead to isolation.

And when the body says no( as Gabor Mate says itself) it's probably because something in the mind isn't working as it should.

Life too short for this s***

Cheers

Marc

Well said. I agree entirely from my own my own suffering. It started with trauma and ongoing stressful conditions to deal with. It is never ending, always something to cause anxiety. I have tried everything but nothing you take or external treatments will ever work until the traumas a re resolved and stressful conditions are removed. This pandemic has exacerbated our health with lockdowns, isolations, damaging vaccines and government fear making with all its rules. I get no help at all now. Am completely alone, 78 with severe COPD, now osteoporosis, and my digestive system is screaming in pain and bloating. 40kgs and going down. I had no digestive issues at all before the traumas, could eat anything. Now my body is saying no, and refusing to deal with and absorb food. So sad are these times.Kay

The fodmap diet seems to help a lot of IBS sufferers and garlic is a Big NO. Also I can't remember where I read it but recent studies show that peppermint upsets more people than it helps.

Hi Jenna yes I am in the same position but I get asked when is it due! What sort of treatment have you had? Have GPS done any further investigation?

Jenna5 profile image
Jenna5 in reply to JaneB5

I tried Low FODMAP but I didn’t really find it worked that well, I’ve been to see a dietician and she seemed to think I had an intolerance to nightshade vegetables but then that didn’t make sense as I was fine with most. I’ve had gluten and diary intolerance testing done and both were fine. My flare-ups don’t seem to have any rhyme or reason, very inconsistent.

I also don’t have a thyroid so not sure how that contributes too. As well as my thyroid meds, I take Vit D and probiotics daily. The doctors gave me some IBS meds too (buscopan and something else) but I don’t find them to be that good, not for bloating and wind anyway

Is your intake, see a Gastroenterologist or discard what cause the issue

IBS is terrible and painful. I have found lying down on your left side with an electric heating pad or hot water bottle on your stomach area can be a help. No carbonation, no overeating at any one time, I buy Simethicone at the pharmacy and that helps as well.

Hi,

I completely understand. I have to undo my jeans when I’m out after eating as it’s so uncomfortable and I’m bursting out, but before eating they fit fine! I notice the bloating and gas less if I’m at home and comfortable in joggers etc.

Deflatine can help a bit so I’d recommend trying that. I got it in Boots. I’ve tried peppermint oil but not sure it did much for me.

As others have said some things trigger me like garlic, fatty foods and alcohol.

It’s so frustrating. Im a fast eater which probably doesn’t help so trying to be more mindful when I eat now so I’m not swallowing as much air. Hopefully that’ll help! And make me fuller faster to loose some inches too haha!
