I am bipolar 2 with ptsd from being in an explosion and GAD. When my best friend, it will be two years next month, died of cancer I immediately got IBS and had been suffering aches throughout the night practically every night.. A little more than two weeks ago, I asked my new psychiatric nurse practitioner if I could try Geodon, an atypical antipsychotic. Immediately the stomach aches went away. I have chronic constipation from all the medication I take but now it has gotten a little better. I don't know if that is from taking Geodon or eating peanut butter. You need to have at least 500 calories for lunch and for dinner to make Geodon work.
I pray that it keeps working, especially since I had other symptoms from being bipolar 2 which also have cleared up.

thank you so much. I have been praying constantly that it will continue to work. Actually it has so far killed more than two birds. Most of my life I have suffered from chronic anxiety, worrying and depression and when I got older irritability and trouble sleeping. Then when my best friend Suri died, I suddenly got IBS with stomach pains through the night. I am only sleeping now usually 5 hours but sometimes six or seven. For the longest time I was sleeping only about three hours. I finally felt wonderful. I don't ever remember feeling wonderful. I read that sometimes Geodon can cause IBS but I didn't do much research. I had tried so many supplements. I was just shocked when the stomach aches went away when I started Geodon.Good luck.
I got really constipated and took two bottles of liquid magnesium citrate. They didn't work that much. I usually only take one bottle. I am going to drink another one now. I hope it was because of what I ate at lunch but this week I am only going to take 20mg of Geodon each day. Rats.
Geodon is also FDA-approved for the treatment of acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder, with or without psychotic features, and for the treatment of schizophrenia. Since the FDA approval of Geodon in February 2001, nearly 2 million adult patients have been treated with this important therapy.
I just checked. It is not sold in UK. It says is sold though in other countries. Another name for it is ziprasidone.
I think I might have eaten too much yesterday so finally after 3 bottles of magnesium citrate
my stomach is fine. I have suffered from chronic constipation for years from some of the psychiatric medications I take. I forgot if I mentioned it but a possible side effect of Geodon is constipation. There is a warning that if you have stomach pain tell your doctor. I am sure now
it was just constipation. I don't want to get IBS again. I wish you great luck.
do you know what triggered your IBS? Was it emotional trauma? If so, you might look into atypical antipsychotics in the UK. I wish I could help more. It is such a rotten condition. bap.org.uk/articles/antipsy... . I just checked and here is a list and shows the risk of weigh gain. Most make you gain weight. Geodon has probably less chance of weight gain here.I have never ever been psychotic so don't worry about what they are called.
So pleased for you Bobby - you know now that you can be helped and things can change. It's hard living with anxiety and IBS not to mention bipolar so you obviously have lots of courage.
Thank you so very much. I have never thought of myself that way. At a very young age I was also given the responsibility of being caretaker to my father when he was drunk. I think I was only about 4 or 5. Two nights ago I felt wonderful for the first time in my 77 years of life. My best friend Suri who moved to Israel battled breast cancer for 3 1/2 years. We talked once a week. We never mentioned death. She was only about 60 when she died. I know IBS, at least for me was caused by my response to her death. It was emotional.
