Hello so I was given picolax laxative to flush my system because I was so constipated but it hasn’t really be working just took my second sachet about three hours ago and some small watery solution has been coming out a bit but no actual stool. I took it two years ago and could of sworn the watery solution was a sign that you are clear but I don’t feel cleared at all anyone have any suggestions

Hi there! I feel your pain because one of my family members suffers with very obstinate constipation. You should try Movicol (it works for very bad constipation including fecal impaction) OR lactulose, OR try a Fleet Enema. All the above are very good constipation relievers. Good luck! Blessings x

Hi Neish,Talk to your doctor and see if they recommend Magnesium for you.

My Doctor recommended me to take in the morning 2 dulcolax and 1 small bottle of Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution, Lemon. This was a prep I did to cleanse my bowels for a medical procedure. And in worked great. After taking the above medicines, I drank room temperature water, warm chicken broth, black coffee, etc just liquids, and walked around the community. After 4 - 6 hours, everything started to come out and I felt so relieved!

I hope you can find something that works for you and make you feel better.

Thank you for your advice currently on 8 packets of Movical a day and seems to be helping a bit! The picolax didn’t work but I seemed to have naturally passed a small bit of stool this morning naturally and feeling a little better just so fed up of not being able to go taking laxatives and feeling bloated and bound up etc especially when I have cut out oak or from my diet

This is tough & am very much feeling for you. Hope you’re letting your doctors know.. If a doctor hasn’t already, one should examine your abdomen in clinic. And possibly get your abdomen xrayed to check what’s going on.

I’m not diagnosed with IBS cause my chronic constipation is due to various immune dysfunction & connective tissue disorder illnesses - am 67 now & all my health probs are very early onset, as was my mouth to exit slow DI transit dysmotility including the constipation. So my GI probs aren’t officially be diagnosed as IBS. But these have some stuff in common with IBS.

Some folk need more of everything for their type of constipation. Eg Recently I had 2 big fecal impactions high in colon causing my constipation to be worse than ever. My GP tried 1 glycerol suppository which produced nothing, so she sent me to A&E, where xray found my 2 impactions & I was admitted to surgical ward.

Over 6 days, the ward surgeon gave me 2 enemas & 3 pkts of picolax: one of those treatments each day. These each produced only a few type 1 stools (pellets). But they sent me home for my GP to take over. She had me take 1 pkt of picolax each week for 4 weeks...each packet produced a bit more stool, & the last packet produced enough stool for us to hope the impactions had mostly cleared.

Now my gastro has put me on prucalopride. And I’m to take picolax treatments whenever I feel the need, up to 1 picolax pkt per week.

But I know patients like me who are on several different prescription laxatives + picolax packets every week & are still struggling to pass stools

Hi Barnclown, My doctor recently prescribed me Prucalopride due to my idiopathic chronic constipation. I have tried other laxatives and they haven’t really worked for me. The only thing that works is enemas which I apply them (1 every 4 days) in the morning before eating anything.

I wonder how you are taking the Prucalopride and if you have had any reactions. I took the first pill (1mg) last night before going to bed, and woke up this morning with a bad headache and neck/back pain. Thanks for sharing your information.

Hello mary...Thanks for this feedback. I hope things settle down soon. Fingers crossed prucalopride can help you

I haven’t started taking prucalopride yet, but may be this coming week. whatever, I will start it very soon and am expecting my body to act up a bit & to need time to adjust to it, because I’ve had to adjust to a lot of heavy meds over the years. If I don’t tolerate it well, my consultant wants me to move on to linaclotide.

Wish none of us need to take these meds, but it’s wonderful when they do help. 🍀❤️

Thanks so much for your message. Good luck to you too! I will report in 1-2 weeks how things are going with the Prucalopride medicine. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hi ,I had a prep before a colonoscopy & the end result when the bowel was empty was a watery substance , but quite a lot of diarrhoea had come out beforehand. It depends really on how much you have already passed & how much you have eaten to judge whether you’re getting empty

It sounds as though it has just washed round and left the solid stool behind. You might need to increase your dosage, I have to take 3 picolax, 2 cleenema and 2 klean prep every day to have a bowel movement even then sometimes it just washes around the stool. When this happens I only have soup and yoghurt until I feel that I have passed some solid stool.

I have never been constipated. I have the other problem. I’m no use to you except to say that I’m sorry and hope something works soon for you. My grandfather used to have colonic irrigation and that always worked. Con amore Bx

I'm in much the same situation but now have not been for 4 days what's the longest you have ever gone without a BM ?

Don’t worry I have gone 2 weeks without W bm! It’s very uncomfortable but went to the doctor loads of time and he said as long as I’m not vomiting or with temperature in ok! What I think help is loads of sachets of moviolas taking about 8 a day now which is a lot but it does produce a bm in a comfortable way too hope that helps!

To be honest I have started using glycerine supositories and find that 80% of the time they work they are in sainsburys and are quite cheap as well

No: every day I was on Ward I had a treatment. And I only had 1 dose of 1 type of treatment each day.

day1: 2g Glycerol suppository

day 2: 1x Cleen pre-packed Enema

day 3: 1x Cleen Enema

day 4:1/2 pkt Picolax

day 5: 1 pkt Picolax

day 6: 1 pkt Picolax
