You need to make an appointment to see your GP for an official diagnosis of IBS.

There are many bowel conditions all with similar symptoms, but all treated very differently, without knowing what you are suffering with you will not be able to start living well with your condition.

What else could it be? | The IBS Network

Symptoms of IBS indicate a sensitivity and irritability of the gut, which may, of course, be caused by other diseases that irritate or cause inflammation of the bowel. Your doctor will always need to consider the possibility of one of these.

Without a diagnosis from a medical practitioner no one will be able to advise you on treatment and you will not be able to start feeling well again. It cannot be diagnosed over the phone as there are certain tests that need to be carried out to rule out other conditions.

This might sound a daft question but how do you know if you've got an official diagnosis? I've been to the doctors several times and been told "It's probably IBS" but they're not taking it any further. Only said that I can have yet another blood test if I want to check I'm not deficient in anything.

Have you consulted a gastroenterologist. If not, you should, as they are the most likely to give an accurate diagnosis and suggest treatment options.

Hi, If you,ve been diagnosed with ibs you can take buscopan & immodium, my doc put me on amitriptyline for ibs & anxiety & then changed me to nortriptyline as the amitriptyline was making me tired all the time I still have to take immodium for the diarrhea, keep telling the doctor your suffering, they have to help you, don,t suffer , I know the feeling, it can take over your life, take care.
