ngoing stomach bowel issue.

Hi everyone. I posted 6 months ago about my ongoing stomach and bowel problems and sadly im still no where near getting any help.

Ive always had ibs since i can remember. Few stools a day and mostly loose. This never bothered me to much till a year and two months ago things got worse.

Every week 5 to 7 days i have a feeling of liquid at my back end. It is yellow mucus that comes out with a explosion with 90% gas. My stomach constantly gurgles all the time and bloated. It really has got to the stage now im sick fed up of life.

I asked my gp for help. They did two FIT stool tests both negative and different times. Stool.culture negative. Stool elastase negative. Abdominal ultrasound. Clear. Bloods clear.

Ive never had blood which is a good thing. They wont send me for a colonoscopy because no weight loss or blood no matter how much i have pleaded with them it gets refused.

I ended up paying a pvt gastroenterology doctor. He started me on rifaximin and week after my symptoms were back. Started me on bile acid powder questran light. I had diarrhea constantly so gave up on it. He started me on doxycycline and did not help. The gas and wet mucus got worse.

I decided to go dairy gluten and wheat free. I was tested for celiac disease and came back negative but was told they are not accurate. Anyway i dont have anywhere near as bad gas as i have had all my life so thats a start. The problem is i still getting this feeling of something like mucus and back end and sometimes need to let it out. I started taking loperamide one a day and it has bulked my stool up best its ever been but still can can get this jelly discharge between normal stools. How weird is that.

The gastro doc said he did not think it was sinister but something is wrong. There is no way out for me now i have been refused a colonoscopy again. Left out to rot basically.

Why i am producing yellow jelly discharge on and off i dont know. This has been a year now with no weight loss or blood. I feel ok and still lift in gym. Im 50 now also. I would try anything to get help or any ideas.

Ive tried everything diet wise and yes it has helped with terrible gas but im still getting wet farts so to speak then it clears for a week then back.

Is this the life i will lead from now on. Really need some help and ideas please.

Thanks.

Hi mal444,Sorry to hear about your issues. Sounds awful and I know exactly how you feel. Have you had a medical diagnosis yet? To me it sounds like you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

I don't understand why your GP is behaving this way and adding to your stress and anxiety levels. Additionally the behaviour has made you pay to see a specialist, which is totally wrong if the GP to let it get that far. I do understand your thinking as I've done exactly that myself.

I think you need referring to the hospital to get a diagnosis and relieve you of the stress and anxiety you're feeling. If it is IBS, then the yellow mucus is perfectly normal, as it would be if it is white, brown or even transparent.

You could also ask your GP to refer you to a Dietitian as people our age have bowel changes and could have some Diverticulitis or Diverticulosis. Hope this helps 😍

Hi Evonne02Thank you for the reply and all the help

Yes it can be yellow and sometimes totally clear. I dont trust myself to pass wind these days which is so not normal.

Do you suffer from the same thing?.

I dont understand why this happened out the blue to me a year ago. I could see the point if i was having constant diarrhea but im not. Something inside is not right but with these set rules they have with the nhs now unless you can prove theres blood they wont get you seen.

I dont lie and dont want to do that so just am trying different things. I must say that stopping dairy wheat gluten has really helped the gas.

Hi again, yes I have the same symptoms but mine are more extreme. I'm struggling to eat anything these days and get diarrhea within an hour of eating food as well as acute pain from the left of my navel going down my stomach. Certain vegetables and fruits leave me in pain worse than the 2 labours I went through to have my children. Right now I'm so scared to eat and basically live on crisps and chocolate. When I do try again after 2 days I just get the acute pain and the healthier the food, the more pains I get. I've been told by the pain clinic that I have Diverticulitis and I've been waiting ages for a hospital appointment. The wait is awful.

If you don't pass wind when it's there you just end up building gas in your stomach...making it worse. Just do it if you need to and all you can do is apologise. I tend to go into another room or move away from people if I need to.

No one knows why people get this issue. A lot of scientists think it's to do with stress and/or anxiety which would put me definitely in that category. I think this is why GP's are so dismissive which is wrong.

I wouldn't worry or concentrate on the blood at all. The most important thing is a change to your normal bowel habits. That is when you should worry. I had a blood issue and it turned out to be a self healing cyst. It bled a little the healed a little until it disappeared and it was a couple of inches inside my bowels. It's the change in bowel habit that's concerning.

I have a big issue with wheat, malt, wholemeal, etc, which gives continual diarrhea for at least a week, plus the pains. 😍

Thanks again for replying.

It sounds like your having a awful time of it with everything thats going on with your health. Anyone can get diverticulitis at any age ive been told. Some people respond well to a course of antibiotics to help heal things. Have you tried that?. Do you just pass mucus also?.

People say to eat healthy but it does not work for everyone as you say. As long as you are eating something and drinking fluids you will get calories in. Thats the main thing. Gps and the likes dont care these days. Unfortunately with covid going on its just made matters 100 times worse for us.

I havent had much of a change in bowel habits as in diarrhea or going more. Its just this watery sometimes loose stool tiny amount of finger nail size of mucus. I suppose that is a change but its not making me lose weight. Im really worried now but trying to carry on as normal. If my bowels had changed to constant diarrhea then that would have been a big change but this explosive gas with clear fluid or bubbles. Froth even slightly.

H pylori?

Ive taken doxycycline and rifaximin. Would they not have killed the virus?. I am seeing gp tomorrow again so will ask him to look on the system. Thanks for that. Its another possibility.

in reply to mal444

It’s a triple therapy treatment with amoxicillin, metronidazole and a ppi like omeprozole

Im wondering if you are dairy/lactose intolerant? I've had IBS for over 45 years but it all started very much as you described with the mucus etc. I had it like you for 7 years before I discovered I was lactose intolerant. I later discovered I was dairy protein intolerant too, so no lacto free milk either. You havent said whether or not you've tried a dairy free, Fodmap diet?

Hi. Well when all the happened a year ago i went with lacto free milk. Never helped but continued it. 2 weeks ago i went with almond milk and my gas symptoms have been much improved. In those 2 weeks i still have had 2 days with passing mucus but i suppose dairy coulr take a while to fully leave your system. But your right something has helped. I not only went dairy free i went gluten and wheat also. So will stick with it.

Sorry to ask but you was just passing mucus also with gas?.

Mucus and gas. I still get a bit of gas but I have other intolerances that I have to avoid. Anything greasy or fatty will make gas.

I'm sorry to hear about your on going problems. I'm much the same, have had ibs for decades. Stress & anxiety are a trigger as are most foods for me so I take loperamide & codeine on a daily basis & follow quite a restricted diet, no wheat or lactose, only certain fruit & vegetables, definitely no pulses. There is no cure, it's just a case of managing it as best you can. I have had all the tests pre-pandemic but apart from showing diverticulitis , everything else was fine. I think as we get older our bodies can't digest food the same, hence the problems. I wish you well.

Hi. Thanks for the message.Yes i totally agree with getting older our bodies change especially in the gut and bowels.

I am now sticking to a strict diet it isn't easy but will do practically anything right now to stop my horrible symptoms.

All this happened a year ago for me. I have had ibs for a lifetime but never passed mucus with gas. That was new for me.

Sounds like you had a camera but sadly they wont do that for me.

Your symptoms are exactly as mine, I was informed mucus discharge in Ibs is normal and nothing dangerous about it, but it surely can have a negative effect if u put to much mind into it, I've learned to live with mine, sometimes, when I want to pass out gas and I'm alone, I lay down sideways and let it out, that would prevent it being wet. Gut problems is so horrible but we are supposed to be happy it's not life threatening right? Furthermore, Have you tried any probiotics?
