I had a hernia quite a number of years ago, which I’ve only more recently wondered if it has anything to do with getting IBS-C ? It was after I saw a comment on here about hernia scarring , as I did have quite a few issues with it after the operation & they had to investigate a second time & do surgery again .
Has anyone else had the same with IBS & a hernia please ?
Yes i have a femoral hernia which seems to be linked with my ibs constipation. Not sure whether the constipation caused the hernia or the hernia is making my constipation worse. Had one operation when i was in Malta, but the hernia was not found, and is still there so now i have scarring. Waiting to see a consultant about the hernia, hopefully i will know more then.
I hope you get on alright with your consultant & he gets you some treatment.
I spoke to my gastroenterologist today about my hernia , which was a long time ago , he said that mine had no connection with the IBS or constipation even if I had scarring so that told me 🙄

Hi garden lover I originally thought I had a hernia when all my pain and constipation kicked off as a hernia can cause constipation !! Also I did do a lot of lifting as I’m a keen gardener and bags of compost are very heavy ! So I would ask your doctor about that x

I did ask my gastroenterologist today & he said a definite no , I must admit it was about 20 years ago that I had the hernia , but I thought it was worth asking , you just never know .
I used to do a lot of lifting as I had a shop & did weekly trips to the cash & carry , so be careful lifting that compost !
I’m also trying to find out what’s caused it lol I’m thinking menopause 🤣 but I know that thyroid problems , diabetes and lots of other things can cause it have you had bloods done ? B12 is a good thing to take too I’ve found that if I’m iron deficient the constipation gets worse but the iron meds causes d or c , can’t bloody win x
I’ve had blood tests done & gluten checked but they both showed nothing apart from low vitamin D , well it was in the winter 😂

I know iron is a nightmare when you have constipation ! I daren’t take Buscopan for the same reason , I’m so bloated & 🌬 at the moment , I could definitely do with it !! X
I blame it in the menopause too !
I only found out recently that buscopan can make constipation worse ! I don’t know about you but the hot weather is definitely making things worse even though I’m drinking more water than a fish 🐠!! X
It’s definitely making me worse ! And the water....I’m drinking gallons of it too , isn’t it a nightmare having this IBS .
