Hi I have just got over a bad IBS D flare up and I lost 9lb in a week I've had loads of blood test and stool samples which have all come back normal. Have u seen ur GP and had any test done if not I would definitely recommend u going to see ur GP. I was like u and couldn't eat anything I've since been put on Lansoprazole which has helped as the GP said I had acid reflux now I'm able to eat little bits and follow the fodmap diet and I've but my weight back on. So u may want to try the fodmap diet and gluten free foods until ur stomach and eating gets back to normal. Hope this was some help to u
I too lost weight and never regained it after I discovered starchy food was mostly to blame. I still limit most carbohydrates and am using liquid meal replacements to stabilise my weight from dropping anymore.
Hi Dorothy71, I lost 1.5 stones since Dec 2019 with presumed IBS. With the help of a nutritionist I have drastically changed my diet and put back on nearly a stone. This has also helped my anxiety. Can you tell me what liquid meal replacements you are eating as I cant seen to put on any more weight.
It's very difficult and I sympathise. I've had it for 40 years. Cut out all dairy, yeast, all fruit, oats, nuts and only eat potatoes, well cooked carrots and spinach if you can tolerate it. Nothing fatty or greasy. I can eat poultry and beef but not lamb or pork. Don't drink anything fizzy or alcohol. Replace bread products with plain biscuits. You may also have an unknown intolerance. I'm intolerant to sunflower oil and dextrose. Hope this information helps.
I would recommend seeing your doctor, ideally your gastroenterologist, to make sure you don't have something else going on. I have IBS and had this issue. It turned out to be an ulcer. My GI doc said I should not lose substantial weight over a period of time just due to IBS. Once my ulcer was treated I could eat much more freely and put the weight back on easily.
I’ve lost nearly a stone too, I’ve been doing the FODMAP diet for a few months & it is helping, it’s not an overnight wonder but with perseverance , my tum is more settled less like a volcano awaiting to erupt !
I’ve been trying to get more food down to help gain weight but it’s hard to put it on , after years of dieting now I’ve lost weight I don’t want to ,typical !
I’ve been cooking veg instead of having salads as it is easier to digest & cooked foods amount to a lesser quantity than raw . Also having them with brown rice noodles or quinoa & fish or chicken . So I get a variety of different food groups .
