Symptoms a lot worse, no help from doctor

I am 36 and I have been suffering from terrible IBS for 8/9 years now. Over the past 4 months things have changed and got a lot worse. I have learned to live with the diorreah / constipation but now it’s the wind that is affecting me the most, constant wind with the most foul smell. This is now affecting my relationship with my boyfriend. I constantly burp / pass wind even when I’ve not eaten anything. I have Been having severe stomach spasms when exercising to the point I’m nearly passing out in pain. Doc has checked my thyroid and I had a scope done years ago. Have had 3 telephone doctor appointments and literally feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall. I can tell that something is not right and has changed but don’t feel like I’m getting any help from doctor. Have been told to try the fodmap diet and see how I get on. Cried my eyes out after I came off the phone. Literally cannot live like this. I’m also feeling like I’m not emptying my bowel or my bladder fully.

I have been tested for coeliac also as my mum has this. Anyone have any help or advice for me ? Thanks x

Do try the Fodmap diet. It is the only real help for IBS as far as I know.

Good morningI have suffered with IBS for 30 years I take activated charcoal capsule for the wind, I don’t drink tap water as it affects my IBS badly only spring water as tap water has fluoride in it that affects IBS.

Your IBS will constantly be changing and you will have to change with it, do you take buscopan tablets? You can get them from your doctor but they are cheaper from chemist.

Fibre plays a big part to IBS, there are two types of fibre soluble and insoluble fibre to much soluble will cause constipation to much insoluble will cause loose stools. If at all possible keep a food and toilet diary to see what foods are your triggers, and look back over the last two/three days, look at the Bristol chart, it’s not nice but it will teach you how to help control your diet. Hope this helps👍🏻 Lewis.

With all the wind and foul smell it could be Sibo, but i know doctors are reluctant to test for it. Its bacteria in your gut, and they can prescribe a certain antibiotic for it. Otherwise be careful with how much fibre you take

One simple tip could be to drink hot boiled water. For me this helps a bit

I have thought about that too actually! Just feel like doctors aren’t really interested in doing any investigations. Just send you away saying it’s IBS. I have been doing the low fodmap diet for 4 weeks now and it has dramatically helped!! So hopefully it continues. X

Lorrs85, take a look at this information about vitamin B1, the vagus nerve and the forms of thiamine found to be most effective both in the brain and body such as sulbutiamine, TTFD and benfotiamine. Check out the pros and cons of each in addition to thiamine hydrochloride. Magnesium is needed for thiamine to become bioactive so a deficiency can inhibit thiamine. If you not using probiotics or digestive enzymes at this time consult an expert for recommendations. Once your digestive system is revitalized from a possible thiamine deficiency these other supplements may no longer be needed. There are foods, drinks and cooking temps that are not kind to thiamine that your research will point out. Also the B vitamins work better together so it's important to become familiar with them too.
